Off Topic Question for People in So California
« on: December 01, 2004, 11:11:17 am »
Hello All,

I know this is off-topic, but I also know there are tons of dealers/consumers that live in Southern California.  So I am asking for your help.

I am going to San Diego for the first time during the first week of February.  My brother is going for business (he is a smuggler) and I told him I would meet him out there.  I have nothing better to do.

My questions are:
What is in San Diego that I should not miss?  How far is Los Angeles?  Are the beaches any good?  What type of weather should I expect in February?  Would you recommend any bars (my brother and I drink a lot when we get together)?

Thanks,

Chris

Bill,
Are you kidding me?  I seriously have to move.  I haven't been to California in 15+ years.  Now, I understand why Chas makes fun of us northeasterners.

If you want to go to LA you do, it's several hours drive.

We spent a week in Hollywood about 18 months ago, to see the season finale of the Friends TV show being taped.  We also spent some time in Santa Monica, Ventrura Beach, and Beverly Hills.

We drove from LA to San Diego to take the kids to Sea World, if I recall, it was a several hour drive.  Can't remember the distance exactly, but I certainly do remember the traffic.  Bumper to Bumper everywhere we went, till we got out a ways from LA.

I was out in San Diego a few years prior to that on business, and we just took cabs from our hotel (Mariott- a way cool hotel) to the bar district.  There were if I recall, several really nice places we visited.

Yes, that is entirely true.

Mission Bay is nice, Hotel Row is inland a bit and has tons of good bars and grills which you can walk amongst. The whole area around the Convention Center is great and you can walk to such things as Horton Plaza (very unique shopping mall), the Kansas City Rib joint in which the famed "steamy bar scene" from Top Gun was filmed. Fortunately they also have good food, and you can catch the trolley right out front.

It is also close to the water's edge, so be careful about drinking too much and walking around alot.

It's a huge city - you can find whatever you want, and plenty of things you don't want.

Couple of hours to Los Angeles.

If you started in the Convention Center area, you could walk or take the trolley everywhere you needed to go. If you want to get beyond that you'll need a car. You know how some places they drive on the wrong side? Out here we drive on the wild side.

It's one of the best "thrill rides" in CA! Better than a roller coaster..... ;)

LA freeways - not for the faint-of-heart.

You haven't lived until you've been in a 70 mph traffic jam.....

AH - Nothing like 6 lanes of traffic going 70+ MPH - bumper to bumper.

In other words, NASCAR for normal folks - I think.

The San Diego zoo is worth a visit. The Chimp area now has a Haven spa.

No, actually it's a Phoenix. They wouldn't put the monkeys into a non-UL tub.    ;)
