Haven Spas / Spa Specialist

A tiny bit of background...

I'm new to the world of hot tubs and started my reasearch only several weeks ago. Everything I'm going to say comes from me as a buyer looking for a hot tub.

From my reading here, I see that there is often a lot of arguing about Haven Spas an it's owner Jim. I also understand that Jim has been banned from posting here. The following is for Jim (and potential customers) to read.

As I am a list freak, I will put it in another list:

1. Your web site is low rent. If you want to be thought of as a professional organization, present a professional image. Hire someone to do the website because whoever is doing it now isn't worth a dime.
(probably self-done)

2. From what I can understand, you think that taking the heat that is given off by the pump motors and such can warm the water and save on energy. If it's such a great idea, hire a patent attorney and start  manufacturing.

3. If you are a tiny business and you have a bazillion people mad at you now, how are you going to make it to a big business?

4. Credibility doesn't result from bad-rapping all the major manufactures and saying that you know it all. Not only is it arrogant, it is wrong.

5. ISO 9001 - Of course you bad rap it. You're a guy that basically works out of the back of a vehicle and have no quality process.

6. Your pricing isn't so great either. If someone is going to go with a low rent guy, they better get a low rent price.

7. Finally, quit sending your drones (or yourself acting as someone else) out to to the hot tub forums to preach your message. It only hurts you more.

8. Read some books or take a course on business and sales/marketing at your local community college as it is apparent that you have major shortcomings in this area.

I may not know a lot about the hot tub business yet, but I can definitely say that I would never even consider buying one of these home-modified things and I wouldn't recommend anyone else to do so either.

just my 2 cents

1. Be careful.  One of our most helpfull members also uses this software on his site.

2.  He is not the only one using this technology.  You will see it refered to as Thermal Pane (TP).  Some of the larger manufacturers use this as well.

It is always good to see what the public sees.  As some one in the business, you tend to start to see only what you want to see, or have been taught to see.  When we hire someone new, I love to pick their brain about their unbaised view on our company/advertising/product.  As you work around the spa line you represent (especially us salesfolk) you get verry pasionate for your product.  You will often overlook the negetives.  That is why I love this site! You can get a good UnBiased opinion on not only your product but everyone elses.  In the town I grew up in Cal Spas was all you ever heard about.  They had a big store and huge sign off the main Interstate.  If I was thinking about a hot tub, I was thinking about Calspa.  After coming here I have learned that their are bigger and better companies out there.

Which brands have you looked at/concidering?
Where are you from?

Re: #1: I don't know what the underlying software is and really don't care as a consumer. I don't know what other site you are referring to, but the fact is that the haven/spa specialist site is an amateur looking site done by an amateur. (my opinion) It's not even in the league as the major players.

Re: #2: I'm referring to DAIT, not TP. If I understand it right, Haven starts with a TP Spa and adds the "exclusive" DAIT technology.

I have a deposit down on a Hot Springs Grandee. Of the tubs, I would consider I would say the list is something like Hot Springs/Caldera, Jacuzzi Premium/Sundance, and maybe 1 or 2 others.

I'm in Chicagoland.

Didn't have any perception of Haven until I looked at the web site. Seen mention of it here and immediately checked out the site. It was never a case of I thought they were good and then I learned better.

Though I agree with much of what you said, this one comment scares me to death. It's the very reason why it should never be mentioned here.

Thankfully NightOne has intelligence. Are we willing to risk sending someone not as sharp over there who might get sucked in?

Nothing personal but I believe this entire thread should be removed by everyone who posted. Your point is made... Let's not risk it.

How did I ever guess? Watch out Kreskin, Mr. Happy is takin' over!

It's not much of a stretch since I've repeately posted that I live in the Chicago area and there are only like 6 White Sox fans here.  ;D

I think the original knock on Jim's site was relative to the entire website, not the forum itself. While I prefer this method and the one at poolandspa.com versus the forum softwarre Jim and Dr Spa use, their forum site works well enough. Maybe he can get Kenny to slap something better together. Besides, Jim has talked about going public in the past and once he does he'll have tons of $$ from the IPO to spruce things up a bit.

Why do we have to talk about this guy?  Good or bad.  This is still free advertising for him.
By the way, I won’t be purchasing his stock when it goes public.  I will be purchasing his inventory/proprietary technology when he goes out of business.  I really need to get my hands on that DAIT technology for myself.

Why???? I find the board here a pain to use. All I can see when I log in is that a thread has had a message added to it. How many messages I don't know...... And then when I click on the thread to see the message I don't really know what is new and have to scroll/read through the entire thread to try and figure it out.

But hey! This is just me, and my personal opinion. BTW, on my board you can set it to look almost exactly like this one by clicking on "Set Preferences" at the top of the page, then setting "List Style:" to "Compressed List"........... and set Display Style: to "Guestbook"
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

Retired (mostly) from the industry after 33 years...but still putzing around with a consumer information website, and trying to sell obsolete owners manuals
