If you wear thick rubber soled shoes the GFCI shouldn't trip when you shock. Ok, nevermind. . .
Seriously though, I can reference at least 3 sources that say don't use spa until chlorine falls below 5 ppm: My HotSpring manual, LeisureTimes' instructional material, and the instructions that came with my "Walmart test kit."
How long to wait before using spa? Test strip or test kit and check the chlorine or bromine level. When it's below 5 ppm you're good to go. (personally, I wait until it drops to 3 or less.)
