Does anyone know what the life span of an Ozonator is?My hot tub, a Caldera, is 4 years old and I have never replaced mine, I am not having any problems but I received a flyer from a local pool and spa store that says these need to be replaced every two years. Anyone have an opinion on this?

I would bet you have not had ozonation in your tub for some time. This is not based on your brand of tub, just in my experience of ther life of ozonators.

Is your ozonator UV? CD?

There should be some way of diagnosing whether it working. I would suggest you contact your dealer/manufacturer or ozonator manufacturer for some guidance once you have identified the unit on your tub.

A UV ozonator utilizes a UV bulb creating ozone with a photochemical reaction. The bulb degrades over time and you'll hear varying opinions as to how often to change it. I tell people to change it every 1½ yrs REGARDLESS of whether its still illuminated as by then the amount of ozone its putting off is lessening. At 2 years its deinitely time. Now if you have a CD ozonator its depends no whether you have the type thats requires a chip to be changed out or not.

Spatech;

Don't some of those chips cost a lot of money too?
Who makes the ones without the chip? They obviously must need some sort of maintenance too....

How do you know if you have a CD ozonator that requires a chip?  We've got a Sundance and they supplied the CD ozonator.  Is this something my dealer can tell me?

The Sundance CD ozonator does not require a chip.

if it doesn't require a chip then what needs to be changed (whole unit I would guess) and how often?

The whole unit.  From what I understand, it should last at least five years.
