Help a rookie run a hot tub economically

Hi All,

I have purchased a hot tub in November and have seen my elec bill sky rocket. I have followed the sage advice I have found online about the economy of a well run and maintained hot tub.

Model - LAYZ-Spa Miami

I have this positioned on decking and place an inflatable cover on everytine alongwith another canvas cover when not in use.

The temp i run this at when in the tub in 40c - when I leave I turn this down to 36c and keep it that was until the next time I go in. We use it regularly about 4-5 times a week, so its on constantly - 36c when not in use and then turn it up to 40 a few hours before I go in.

I  regularl check chlorine and other levels to ensure all is ok. I regularly change filters too.

I have seen my elec bill double in December - my elec bill was £225 in a month - whereby its usually £60

Should I keep it on all the time, considering my usage?
Any good tariffs out there which would help me?
Any tips on where I'm going wrong.

If you use it all the time, 4-5 times a week, might be better to leave it at your desired temp instead of turning it down all the time and then back up.

Inflatable cover? Probably not very good insulation.

If your cover is what I think it is they are the worst covers you can get. It's like using 2 pieces of plastic as a cover. Need an insulated hard cover. Add to that a not very good insulated tub.......

Hopefully a good cover will help your issue but if your tub isnt well insulated then there's not much you can do about that.  However I use my tub 4-5 times a week and I leave the temp alone.  Unless it is super cold I'll jack it to 104 while I'm in it but then turn it right back down.  I on the other hand haven't noticed that much of a difference in my elec usage.  $25/month maybe?

I'm in mine every day, twice a day on weekends, I just leave it at 104 all the time.
