Saltwater hot tub taste
« on: June 10, 2019, 02:19:02 pm »
Hey folks,

I am still on the fence as to whether or not to have the dealer install the saltwater system on my hot tub. He claims many folks, himself included, feel the saltwater tastes weird. I have only been a saltwater pool, once, and do not remember it tasting weird. I've never been in a saltwater hot tub. Any general consensus on the board here?

Not that I’ve drunken my spa water :)   But can’t say I’ve ever noticed a weird taste. It has less salt in it than the saline solution used in eye drops. I’ve had two tubs now....both with salt water...loved them both compared to other methods...mainly bromine. Wouldn’t go backward.  Hope that helps!

Yeah, that was my thought, and my recollection about being in that saltwater pool. But figured I'd ask. I know the amount you put in, ppm, is pretty darn small. FWIW, the salt system I'd be getting creates bromine, not chlorine, but I wouldn't think that would change the salt taste.

does he make it a habit of drinking his spa water?  :o :o and no you barely taste the salt if at all, the system we install runs around 1,700 PPM Salt, to put that in perspective Ocean water is around 60,000 PPM Salt

I have a regular chlorine tub without a salt chlorine generator system and I add salt to my water because I like the feel.

7 pounds of salt per 350-400 gallons of water. Do the math and make a cup full and taste it for yourself.  ;D
