Hot tub cover material
« on: April 06, 2018, 05:43:01 pm »
I am looking at new hot tub covers and I see covers now have Sunbrella instead of vinyl for an extra $100. I am wondering if it's worth the extra money? I bought my last 2 covers from RHtubs and wasn't happy with the second one so also looking for best place to buy. My new tub is a 2014 Jacuzzi J325 and the factory cover was the worst cover I have ever had. Became water logged after 3 years so looking to upgrade.

Thanks for the input.

I really like the sunbrella material.  In addition to looking much nicer, it weighs less and I suspect it will outlast the vinyl, though if the vapor barrier fails that is a moot point.

That was one of my fears. I think the vapor barrier is almost always the first thing to go. I think that's why my factory cover is so heavy after 3.5 years.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the aluminum covers?

Thanks Ivan

Most aluminum/alternative covers will be outstanding long-term, but you're certainly paying for it.  I go by cost-analysis:  If you're going to buy an awesome cover like that for, say, $1500 (no idea on the pricing but that should be in the area), is it worth it?  That is the same cost roughly as 3 covers that would give you a total of 15 years (approx.).  Just something to consider.

The price for aluminum covers seem to be around $1300 and I have always bought 4-6 inch covers with some upgrades so around $600 hundred. I have an outdoor uncovered tub in Massachusetts and seem to get between 5 and 6 years out of a cover. I am just not sure an aluminum cover won't get water logged at the same rate as a regular cover.
