Help-water quality frustration
« on: August 23, 2004, 07:25:45 pm »
I've had my new J385 about two weeks now and am still struggling with the water. It's not cloudy, but not exactly real clear either, and it often has a green tint to it.  I use Leisure time renew/reserve. The dealer said rather than follow leisure's 3-day a week plan just use 2oz reserve/renew once a week and then one teaspoon renew after each use and never use spa up/down. This has not worked for me. My TBr never registers unless I have just added renew, the next day the strip is white. However, my Alk is usually good but the pH ranges from good to high. I don't want to over treat the water. I added Nature 2 hoping that would help but it hasn't changed anything. The dealer tells me not to check the water every day and just add the one teaspoon after each use, but this does not keep my water clear. Any suggestions from the pros?

Do you have an ozonator?  This will help with nature II.
Also, if you read the nature II instructions, it does say to add dichlor.  I would recommend 2 oz of dichlor and run the jets for about an hour.  This will get the water clear in approx. 2-4 hours.

You'll find that you'll need dichlor at least weekly based upon usage.

I assume you are using Bromine.  It is my understanding (correct me if I am wrong) it is not compatible with the Nature 2 System.

sorry...I do have an ozonator also. Renew is not considered bromine, but I'm not sure what it is. Should I use dichlor instead of renew?

Renew is potassium monopersulfate.  However, the reserve is: "A solution of premixed liquid bromide salts, that releases bromine when RENEW is added to the spa"  Talk to your dealer about trying Spa 56 instead of the Reserve it will work with the Renew and the Nature 2.

That is correct.  You do not want to use N2 with reserve/renew.  It is a bromine system.  Use N2 with dichlor or the reserve/renew system with a spa frog.

Please invest in a Taylor Test kit.  The accuracy it affords will help you tremendously.  Also, the book that comes with it is outstanding--just about all you need to know to have crystal clear water.  Good luck!
