New record set
« on: December 31, 2017, 10:59:15 pm »
We don't get a lot of sub zero temps here in Columbus, but when we do it is frequently get 10-20mph winds with it.   In the 15 years I've been a hot tub owner, 4F is the coldest I've soaked it.  Our Sundance is currently set to 106 this time of year.   Tonight it was 2F when I checked at 10pm with no wind.  I opened up the hot tub and it was 106.  Sitting in the tub in  a totally still night, my hood was uncharacteristically quiet.  The air around my head seemed to stay around 80f as there was no wind at all.  I spent 30 minutes in the tub feeling totally comfortable. In that time the tub dropped to 104.

It was a really nice soak.

We use are tub couple times a day. Our 2 year old girl loves it! The temp here for the past 2 weeks hasn't got above 20c coldest we used it was on the coldest day so far and it was 37c that's ascot -34.6f so i kinda laugh when ppl say its to cold.

We were in today at 7f  with some strong winds. My winter wrapper was doing its job pretty well and this time I remembered my cap. We were just about ready to get out when a blast of wind lifted the wind blocker wrapper and OMG was that cold. Wind is much more a factor than air temp IMO. Getting out today I was really glad the tub is only 3 feet from the door. Fastest 3 feet I ever moved.

Without the wind protection we wouldn’t have been in for more than a few minutes.

I always tell people the romantic idea of a tub out away from the house uncovered with 360 visibility is great in theory. We don’t even get enough nice summer nights here to enjoy a tub set up like that. We set ours up for max usage and in doing so had to sacrifice some ambiance.

Our personal record is –30f on a very calm and very cold night. And we used slippers to travel the 3 feet.

If we let any kidos in ours it is in the summer and we turn the heat down under 100f. even then they should be 4 or 5 IMHO.

When my daughter comes in it is set to 102. So in the evening when she goes to bed we turn it up to 103. She is 2.5 years old and loves the tub.  Don't see any problem with having her out there. We live in the county with lots of bush around us so wind is not an issue. We have checked her temp before and after tubing to make sure she doesn't over temp. Plus we take water out there with us

It was 1F when I went out last night.  Again, no wind, so that helped.

27 below zero on Saturday Jan 6th and 37 above zero on Jan 9th. That's a 50 degree spread. I think I heard a collective sigh from all my vehicle batteries.
