Hello all-
The HS site evaluation guy came out yesterday to look things over. He offered a suggestion for a tub installation that I hadn't seen before. It goes:
build a 10' square frame with 10 by 2's and level it on the ground
fill the frame 8" deep with crushed rock and level the rock
build a wood platform out of 2x6's and decking
set that platform on top of the crushed rock bed.
set the hot tub on the platform
His claim is that the tub will 'float' nicely on the bed of crushed rock, and we won't have to dig down 4' to install cement posts for the wooden platform we had intended to build. I should add that we live in Maine, and the water table around our house is quite high since we're technically in a watershed area. We are situated on a slope, thankfully, so we don't really have to worry about standing water around the house or the spot we plan to locate the tub.
Has anyone out there tried building this kid of pad? I'd love to hear feedback or tips....
It sounds reasonable enough....The guy seemed very professional/knowledgable and my husband loves the no-dig part. We plan to build this 'pad' right alongside our existing deck.
thanks,
-E.
