Jacuzzi Ozone System

We have had a Jacuzzi 360 spa for 2 years.  Recently we can not stay in the water because of a very strong odor in which it causes us to cough and our eyes to burn. The next day our lungs are congested.  We use the Silspa disinfectant with oxyburn.  We haven't changed anything, the PH is normal and the water is clear.  Our dealer says the ozone system isn't working properly or we aren't using the spa enough.  Anyone else having a problem with this?

Coughing can be caused by too high of sanitizer levels.

I think one key sentence in your first two links which discuss primarily ozone in the air is:

"Ozone has been extensively used for water purification, but ozone chemistry in water is not the same as ozone chemistry in air."

That coupled with the info in the second four links would lead me to believe that for spa water purification use, ozone has a place. How effectively it's implemented in that roll, I guess is another question.

Considering the lack of standardization and possible lack of skill implementing Ozone in a spa, could it be possible that the gas is making its way out of the water and into the air? If the design was poor to begin with, it seems reasonable that a malfunction could put unsafe concentrations in the immediate area. I am not familiar AT ALL with ozone in a spa, so these are questions the inquiring mind needs answers to.

Perhaps someone has a link or two that would help me understand what a good spa O3 implementation was.

The initial poster's question mentioned the dealer said the O3 was possibly not working properly. What goes wrong with these devices? Other than the physical symptoms, how does one know they have a problem with their O3 generator?

In response to Wisoki, we drained and cleaned our spa three weeks ago thinking it would help.    We still have the same results.

Unplug the ozone system and see if the symptoms go away.

Is silspa Biguanide.  We've seen this several times with biguanide sanitizers.  If unpluging the ozone doesn't work try switching to Chlorine / Bromine.
