Wish me luck... Happy Holidays to all
« on: December 08, 2005, 11:53:51 am »
Well... my Christmas journey begins in the morning.  The kids and I fly out in about 24 hours.  If travelling alone with 2 kids, luggage for 3weeks, snow gear, Christmas presents/stockings, car seats wasn't bad enough the little one started puking in the middle of the night.   :'(

All I can say is this will be fun fun fun.   :)

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday.

Merry Christmas and travel safely.  Don't take gerbils from strangers and don't giggle when you talk and you'll be fine.

Good luck to you and happy holidays. I hope you sit near someone on the plane who also has kids and understands what it's like to travel with them and only one parent. If they don't, too bad.

I returned on the 29th from a travel trip to arkansas to see the folks for the thanksgiving holiday. I hope your travels are good and that you have a blast. One thing that was so funny, When I was flying out of Fort Smith AR, there was this one couple that was sitting in the row across from me, (Small plane, One seat on one side and then the middle row, two seats on the other side) They had a small dog with them, when we took off, the dog had to be under the seat of course, but when we got up in the air, I noticed a baby crying, or what sounded like a baby wimpering and whining. Well when were preparing to land in Dallas Texas, I ask the flight attendant, if there was a baby on board, the woman accros from me said, oh, no, theres not! Guess what it was, IT WAS THE DOG! The dog wimpered and whinned like a baby. The woman said that they havent heard the dog bark much in its life. he cries and whimpers like a child. I thought that was so cute! Anyway, I'd like to hear some other funny or cute travel stories, but since this has to be somewhat hot tub related, when I got back home, I soaked in a hot tub and melted away all the travel blues!!!

My wife tells the story that when she was flying without me but with our 3 kids she had to change the baby in the bathroom but the older boys were only 2½ and 4 (we pumped them out quickly). She took all 3 in the bathroom and when she got out the stewardess told her that was the record for most in their cramped bathroom.

For rotigers, I was staying at the Stonewall Jackson Inn in Fort Smith, Hillbillyland, around 1992.  At about 2:00 am, I noticed some light coming into my room.  I rolled over and noticed the door was wide open.  I rolled over all the way and there was a young man rifling through my pants pocket on the dresser.  I jumped out of bed, threw my arms in the air, and yelled as loud as I could.  He took off like a jackrabbit.

I grabbed my gun from the nightstand and took off after him.  Got out in the middle of the parking lot when I realized I was in my drawers waving around a 9mm pistol yelling like a madman.  I went back to the room, packed, and drove back to Texas.  He evidently had a key to my room and had disabled the deadbolt, which I thought nothing of at the time.  He made off with $40 but dropped my wallet with the credit cards, thank goodness.

Moral of the story, if you stay in a hotel and the deadbolt won't work, ask for another room.

Moral of the story, always get up and reset the deadbolt after the hooker leaves.

I'll keep that in mind, should the need ever arise.

Hotel Stories?

This one didn't have a hot tub.   This was a Howard Johnson's in Hartford, CT.  I checked in and immediately smelled smoke in my room.  I looked around, didn't see anything to alarm myself. I smelled the curtains and they reaked of smoke that would come from a fireplace, not tobacco.  It was 4pm and I was away from home with nothing to do and was starved so I walked to the front desk. I told the man at the front desk, "I smelled smoke in my room, have you had a fire recently?"  He assured me they hadn't and he would send maintenance to my room.  I left the building, and walked to a steak house accross the street.  I really took my time since I was headed a for night alone watching TV. I had a couple of drinks, ordered  an appetizer, steak dinner, and dessert, followec by another drink.  I let the entire wait staff know I was in no hurry. 90 minutes later I walked in the hotel and asked the desk clerk  what they found. His reply was, "The maintenance guy walked down the hall and didn't smell anything"  I remember thinking that a punch in the mouth is probably justified and that perhaps this qualified as justifiable homide, but I decided even idiots have a right to live.  I calmy told him, " I didn't smell smoke in the hall, it was in my room. "  He called the guy back and we met at my door.  We opened up the door and the smoked billowed out and it covered the top 6 feet of the room wall to wall.

It turns out they had laid new carpet that day and the carpet layer forgot to cut off the part that curled up under the heater.

You know those little survey cards they leave you? Have you wondered if anyone reads them?  I assure you they do. I put,  "The inaction of your employees nearly caused a major hotel fire"   I got a phone call within a week.

PS - Don't tell anyone this was the 2nd of 3 hotel fires on a night I was checked in. :)

I use to travel a lot.
