Help! Jacuzzi max temp 102 in VA, holding sale
« on: July 19, 2004, 09:17:01 am »
Hey guys,

I have been reading a lot of your posts, so even though this is my first post here, I have been learning a lot over the last couple of weeks by reading here.

I am nearing the end of my 1-2 month search for my first hot tub.  I am buying it for therapy/relaxation.  Based on filtering some of the stronger names in the business with how the dealers seem to be when visiting them, I am about ready to by a Jacuzzi 365 today.  I have wet tested it, along with some others, and this one is fine for me.  My concern is that the dealer says that the max temperature you can allow a spa to run at is 104, but they/Jacuzzi will not go over 102.  I was about ready to accept this but I have a veteran hot tub user who I work with who is telling me that 102 isn't going to cut it here in VA in the winter.  My dealer says they can't alter the 102 degree ceiling.  This has me potentially holding up the purchase.  Any suggestions, comments or techincal info?

Many thanks, in advance.

UL wont approve any tub that goes beyond 104 degrees. That is the max safety wise. Several folks have circumvented this, and dealers Ive talked all have told me the same thing - if their techs see that its been modified, they void the warranty on the spot.  I checked with my spa manufacturer, and they told me the same thing. If you wish to try to figure out how to do it on your own, good luck but you no longer have a warranty if a service tech sees its been tampered with.

Hi Spaguy,

Thanks for answering.  I would just like to get that ceiling raised to the max of 104.  The Jacuzzi dealer says that it will not go over 102, and what I was wondering is if they can set it to 104, and if they can't, should I care about the extra 2 degrees?  My friend at work has a lot of tub experience and told me not to settle for 102 because even in this climate, which isn't extreme, he said I would miss that extra couple degrees in the winter months.  I soaked in it the other day, inside the dealership and it was fine for me at 101, but I am afraid of regretting not getting that full 104 degree potential later on when it's cold.

I was going to look also at a D1 tub, but the dealership here in VA Beach was anything but freindly when I vistied them on Friday.

There are many Jacuzzi owners here and I have never heard that limitation before.  It would be a deal buster for me.  We keep our tub at 102 most of the time, but if I have sore muscles that 2 degrees makes a big difference.

Unless they made changes recently, these tubs are maxed at 104 just like everyone else. I have a J-330, 2003 model and it definitely hits 104. I'd try to contact Jacuzzi directly and ask them to clarify this information. You will love this tub. Good Luck!!!

A Jacuzzi Premium spa will definitely reach 104.  I don't know what the dealer is pushing, but it does not sound right.  As far as temps go, 102 is what most folks set for winter.  At 104, most people can only stay in for a short time.

Maybe he just go confused and said one thing while hearing himself saying another. I do it all the time. (The handle "Dazed and confused" is already taken. ;)

According to Chas, this was the reason (or one of the reasons) Hot Springs and Caldera went with ETL instead of UL as that allows them to go beyond that 104º threshold. Most people stay at or under 104 but I've seen many who like it 105, 106 etc. though that's getting up there.

When I firset got my spa(HS Landmark) I kept it at 102 during the winter but I soon dropped it to around 100 and it is still fine.  Personally, I can't sit in a tub at 104 for more than 15 minutes and I like to soak longer than that.  I live in South Jersey and I was in my spa set at 100 during the coldest(single digit) nights last winter and it was plenty warm enough.  I think that once you start soaking you may find that 104 is too hot anyway.  But from others posts it sounds like your dealer may be mistaken anyway and you will have the 104 limit.

Hi All,

I did resolve the question with the dealer.  The limit is indeed 104, not 102.  If work will lighten up enough to afford me time to get a cement pad or deck layed out for this thing, I can go ahead and get it installed.  I should be ordering it tomorrow.

Thanks for all the input.

Looking forward to being able to soak!
