Hotspot SX
« on: October 29, 2015, 06:00:29 pm »
I have decided to "go new". I am looking for a 2/3 person spa for $5,000ish.

I am 160lbs and my manfriend is 220. I have eliminated the triangle spas, Marquis Rendevous, Sundance Tacoma and the TX for being too small.

I would like a plug and play since I am renting and do not want to spend the extra money on the wiring for the 220. Yes, I understand the trade offs of the 110.

I absolutely love the seating in the Hotspot SX. Love it!
2 reputable dealers nearby. $4,200 includes cover, starter supplies and delivery.
What do you all think?

It sounds like you went in with a plan and found what you want within your budget. However, ask the dealer if that takes a dedicated 110V outlet (not a big deal) vs just plugging into your existing outlet on the side of the house.
220, 221, whatever it takes!

110V 20A.  It requires a dedicated 110V.  Price is smoking.  Generally the SX is in the low 5s

We looked at those.  Seemed like a nice, little tub.  Didn't care as much for the interior finish and seating dry was not as comfortable as others.

Price is about the same as we were quoted here.  If you like it, that's all that matters.

What's this ozone all about?
The dealer wants to add on a ozone thing for $399. Yikes.
Do I want it or need it for this tub?

It's used to inject Ozone gas into water.  Ozone gas acts as an oxidizer to eliminate and precipitate waste out of solution so it can be removed by the filter.  Your dealer will tell you that it will reduce your chlorine/Bromine use.  In real life it's one more thing to go wrong or troubleshoot around.

Ozone gas will cause some types of plastics to deteriorate quicker...things like the underside of your cover, headrests, etc.

At $25 for 5 pounds of Chlorine shipped to your door it would take a very long time to ever reach ROI with Ozone and that's assuming it had no negative properties.

Good luck in your decision.

I did, but I'm chea.....errrr...frugal.

Chem Geek has posted several times on how Ozone affects water chemistry and that it can actually work against you in a tub that is frequently used.  You should read up on his posts.

My 10 YO tub hasn't had ozone in at least 8 1/2 years ... it had the old "black light" type ozonator. I think I unplugged it about 5 years ago ...

Keeping your water clear is relatively easy once you get it down pat. I agree that $400 is a lot of money for ozone IF it does anything at all.
