The thread in which you questioned me has been locked, and since gun talk seems to be in the process of being squelched I can't really respond on the board.
Fine by me.

My reasons for my stand on how I prrotect myself are my own, thru experience and what I've been witness to.  Just like your experiences and views guide your behavior.

I owe no explanations to anyone for doing what is legal, in fact what is my right.

That said, gnight.

Yeah, what Brewman said.

I felt that I had reasons - female, single, living alone, and neighbors from hell that tried to kill each other in a regular basis.

Since this forum is called "General BS Somewhat hot tub related" maybe the fact that my hot tub is about 50 feet from my practice targets in the yard then it fits in.

You certainly have the right to feel the way you do.  Given your statements about needing a gun to protect your family, I was just curious how two people living in similar situations would feel so differently about personal safety.  Let's just let it go.

Have a good (and safe :)) weekend.

Same back atcha!  No hard feelings here.  I am extremely difficult to offend.  But I agree it's time to call it a day on this. :)

Great to read. This forum has some great people, and I tend to err on the forgiving side of questionable posts, but lets try to keep this stuff off the main board, and somewhat keep in mind the Somewhat hot tub related theme.  (I'll be much more forgiving in this section)

By the way, I don't think I've state a position on any matter gun related. I do have an opinion, but I also feel there are people smarter than me on both sides of the issue so we won't solve it here.

I've been online and been a moderator of online forums since the mid 80s, and I've seen many good forums ruined.  When I started the BS section, I mentioned trying to keep religon and politics out, well maybe that should be expanded?

Just keep in mind the somewhat hot tub related title.  Things like closing a message with "God Bless" or Term's picture of him and his rifle are fine and help define character of the poster.

I've had a few complaints about this, and more about the sexual innuendo (which I'm just as guilty of)  Lets tone it down somewhat, especially on the main board, but lets not lose the character that is this forum.

Just curious if the sexual innuendo complaints have been recent or a few weeks back?  I've toned it down and except for my joke with your power outage I haven't noticed much lately.

Still thinking you need either a password protected section or an anything (subjectwise) goes section.   ;D

Depends a lot on life experience, personality, other factors. Talk to someone who has lived in an urban area but never personally touched by violence or chooses to believe "it will never happen to me" and you get one perspective. Talk to someone who has been raped, or lost a family member to violent crime, they may have decided they will not be a victim and got a ccw permit. Some cannot fathom taking another life, others cannot tolerate being defenseless, as long as both are content with their decisions and willing to live with the consequences, rock on.

I lean towards Term and others point of view when it comes to ccw, I don't take the dog for a walk without a lethal force response, typically if the form of an expensive single action 45 (plug for Wilson Combat, I've got 3). Partly because I refuse to be a victim, partly because I've put a lot of people (including a few police officers, one of my own) in jail, and largely because it denies me the ability to effectively take an appropriate law enforcement response to situations I stumble across.

Lot's of folks shouldn't carry a gun and don't, some who shouldn't do. Those are typically the ones you read about.

The very best perspective I have ever read is by Col. Dave Grossman titles On Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs. It is just outstanding and explains the mindset of those who would carry a gun and voluntarily put themselves in harms way. If I can raise my meager computer skills to the task, I'll start a thread with it.

I was traveling in the middle of the night with my family in the car and stopped in northern Az to get gas šI got out to pump my gas, as I was pumping it 4 obviously drunkin men came and were laughing and pulling on the door handles my wife and kids were in the car I was pumping gas I got scared and was telling them to back away from the car, I was afraid to go inside to tell the store clerk, finally a truck driver saw the disturbance and came to our aid brandishing a large pistol. I hate to even think of what may have happened had he not have came to our aid.(apparently this area is well known for this kind of thing I dont know if it being an indian reservation has anything to do with it or not) When I arived in Idaho I purchased a Glock 26 and vowed I will never be that defenslesss again. I cried most of our trip thinking of what could have happened. I then got into my moms hottub to soak away my pains. Ok I will talk no more about guns.

The flip side of that coin are people who have been subjected to the wrong end of a "legal" gun,  or worse yet, lost someone in a firearm accident.  There are valid reasons for people to choose to be what you would call "sheep" that may have nothing to do with ignorance, cowardice or a willingness to be a victim.

I have great respect for all of the professional "sheepdogs" that are willing to put themselves in harm's way for the greater good.  LtDan, I respect your opinions, but I have to admit I am a little surprised.  Most of the people I know in law enforcement do not support concealed carry for the general public.  They would rather see less guns in the field.

While this has evolved into a good discussion, obviously this is a very nuanced issue, and one that should be discussed elsewhere.  I really don't want to drag this out and will let LTDan's post on Sheep, Wolves, and Sheepdogs and be the last word.

Peace to us all.

My experience is different, I've found most police officers are for concealed carry.
