wiring question
« on: May 04, 2014, 07:34:45 pm »
Where my tub will be going, there is a 220v 50 amp outlet wired to my main panel(50' away) with 8-4 copper wire.  I plan on switching the outlet to a disconnect box with a 50 amp gfci. This disconnect box will be about 10' from the tub.  Should I use 6-4 from the disconnect to the spa? Or match the 8-4?

Mowin, 6 4 sounds good to me.   I think, however, the disconnect should be not less than 5' from the tub.    I'm sure others will chime in on this.

10' is not less than 5'       ;-)
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

This information might be in your owners manual.

My jacuzzi reads:  "When using wire larger than #6, add a junction box near the spa and reduce to short lengths of #8 wire to connect to the spa".
