Do Pearlescents really scratch that easy?
« on: June 23, 2004, 12:16:09 pm »
I know that this has been mildly debated on some of these other threads but I'm curious how many people out there have a pearlescent shell and if they do indeed have a problem with scratches.  We've got 2 kids (3 and 1) so over time I'm assuming this tub will get lots of kid use.

I have five Pearlescent tubs. Four on our showrooms, and one in my home.  They don't scratch easily. Yes, you can scratch them, and if you need to, you can buff the scratch out.

You can also scratch the textured type of surface, but it doesn't show as much.

People have been making glossy-finish tubs for over 20 years, and I have taken my share of them to the dump - many are still lookin' good! Some are all scratched up. Take care of the tub, and you wont have a problem.

I have pearlescent!

No scratches after 9 months that I have found (and I look)!

Of course, I don't have any kids!

We bought the ours in white pearl and are not worried about scratches at all.  Having said that, as a parent I would have opted for a rough finish if my kids were still at home.  Kids are kids and I would rather let them have a ball and not have to worry about the finish.

Your life will change.  The kids will grow up.  Today's spa is tomorrow's landfill.  You will enjoy your pearl finish more when you don't have to worry about it as much.  My advice is to wait for the next spa to get the nice finish.

I remember trading our Buick station-wagon, which had vinyl seats, for a new Oldsmobile that had velour, all the rage at the time.  I was reassured that it would be OK as the new fabrics were extremely durable and cleanable and all that.  Whoo-boy big mistake!  The old ice-cream cone planted firmly in the headliner was just the beginning of a bad 3 years.

Regards,

Bill

life is too short to worry about scratches on a hot tub. My advice, if you love the finish, go for it, and enjoy it, rather than worrying about marking it.

any spa shell can scratch, the secret is to stick with lighter colors and it won't show.

If you put a White pearl tub next to one of the new dark blue pearlessent you will notice more scratchs, water spots and marks on the blue and you will usually only see mars on the white if it is dirty.

Ditto to the board.  stuart is right on the dark pearlescents show more scrathces and water spots than the light or the granite.  Wisoki thats funny.
