Going to checkout used HS pulse
« on: March 18, 2014, 09:09:52 pm »
Going to look at this hot tub tomorrow:

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/for/4380598263.html

Looking for tips on inspection. It has water in it and has power to it. This is my current plan of attack.

1. Check for any wetness inside the cabinet.
2. Make sure its warm. Is there something more I can test to check the heater?
3. Make sure the jets turn on and off.
4. Make sure jets redirects work.
5. Check lights.
6. Check shell the best I can.

Anything specific I can do to check the things above?
Would damage to the shell be be obvious?
Any other tips or hints I could use to do a thorough inspection?

Thanks for the feedback!
Dan

I'm a newbie, but I'm also learning a ton be reading this forum hours and hours every day.  I've looked at so my craigslist ads, I could vomit.  It's funny how most people don't give the year of the hot tub they are selling??  I'm sure some don't know.  In this case, they didn't even mention the manufacturer, just the series of hot tub.  I would say Hot Springs are in the top ten, from my reading.  This tub looks fairly new??  Tell the owners that if they put any more water in, and 5 Americans jump in, there will be leaks!

Not only do they not put the information in the ad, most of them don't know the information. It's painful. He does not know the year but I will check that on my phone using the serial number, which I learned here. I just want to make sure I am not buying a lemon or known problem. Not sure what I am going to offer but it won't be $2800.

Pulse is relatively new model.  Oldest maybe 5-7 years old?  Only problem we had was lights.  If they do not function properly, you have to decide how important that is to you and what it is worth.

So I went out earlier this week and the breaker was tripped. He said he had lost power the night before. The hot tub was still warm but not hot. So we set up to meet today. The tub was up to 100. When we visited the area around it was dry. We found out that it was 2008 model year. The insides looked great except some corrosion around the heater? Is this just regular corrosion or signs of a heater on the way out. It looked like corrosion around a battery terminal on a car. Sorry the picture is not clearer. Was trying to do it without making a scene. The white stuff is the corrosion. The source of the corrosion looked to be the ground wire connection.

Is $2500 for a 2008 hot tub in working condition to much? He would include the breaker box and the wiring he has.

Thanks,
Dan

I would be leary of the "power outage" claim.

Thanks for the advice Rosewoodsteel. I was pretty into now I am starting to rethink. It looks nice and functions but there are a lot of little things about the story we are getting.
