Rosewoodsteel,
Have no issue going in tub when temp is below zero. Coldest I recall was a minus 17F. Tub is located outside on deck about three quick steps from patio door. When it is this cold you first go out and open the cover and then come in get undressed and back put quickly. Once your in no problem. Usually wear a knit cap to keep the ears warm. High today of 5 Degrees F and low tonight of minus 9 Degrees F. Happy tubbing and Happy New Years!

My wife and son were out there on boxing day for about 45 minutes at -25C (that's -13F) water was 103 and it was bearable however the hair was freezing and the ice build up around the edge. Oh and wind was blowing about 17kph (that's 10mph) equals a windchill of about -35F
So yes its possible but more of a endurance thing haha.. Generally if its 0 to -15 Celcius (5F) its quite comfortable.
Wear a toque (Canadian for knit hat) or a BB cap to keep a lid on things. A few shots of Capitain Morgan doesn't hurt either.
You will know when its too cold to be out there.

Reports of -15 to -20F with wind of 25 here on Monday.  That would be a record for me.  My lowest tub use is 5 so far.  40 feet to the door after closing & locking the cover will be terrible.  Not sure I am motivated for it.  Worse than the locals that go in the river on New Years.

I will fill you in tonight, its 1 below zero in upstate, ny at the current moment . I have gone in my tub, when it was in the teens, and my mustache froze, but we shall see tonight, i like going in the tub, when its really cold, while my neighbors (who are far apart, we all have about 6 acres) are in their houses, I am out looking at the winter stars, enjoying the great outdoors, nice and comfortable.

I heard it went to -60F in parts on Minnesota Monday. at what point is it so cold that heater won't heat up the tub anymore? -50? -100? Obviously, it depends on the tub and heater and insulation.

Terry,
If it hits -100F, the pipes in my house will freeze, so the hot tub would definitely be a giant block of ice. :)
-Sounds like it might be fun in the tub, though...

Ok, it was 2 below zero yesterday, when i got in the tub, with a mug of imperial pumpkin stout ale. Let me tell you it was marrrrrrrrrrvelous. Me no feel cold at all, got out close the cover, then walked 12 feet to my sliding glass door, of course, i ring my suit out before, i come in the house, then down to the washroom to hang up and dry off. No worries here.
