GFCI Options (Beachcomber 740)

Hi all,

I just stopped by the local  big box store and picked-up a Cutler-Hammer GFCI Kit for hot tubs. More $$$ then I was expecting. What are some other options on the market in Canada (CSA) that I should look at before I open the box? I will be running 50 amp to the tub, but would also like to have a 120 outlet beside the GFCI for low voltage lighting.

Steve, any ideas? WHat does the Beachcomber 50 amp GFCI sell for?

I have seen the "Spa Disconnect Pannel" on some websites, it looks nice with the 120V branch circuit to do just what I want, but I don't think it is CSA.

When you open the box up, there sure isn't a lot inside! That being said, I know the breaker alone sells for $200. I asume you are in the US and the 60A box with $198 USD. I was referring to $235 CAD.

The 50 amp GFI sells for around $200 here as well.

BTW, I think it's time you got OFF the Medic!

I reached one step under an EMT level when I was on a search & rescue team. Actually I was an active member when the big tornado hit here in Edmonton in '87. That was one of the worse days of my life. :-/  I'll never forget it. Don't think I could handle that sort of stress on a daily basis.

Who is we and what make is it? Is it CSA?

Z is a T spa salesman.

You may want to go to the local HotSpring dealer and ask about a 50 amp sub panel for a Mallorca - it is simply an outdoor box with a 50 amp GFI breaker - and room to put in other breakers to take care of that extra outlet you mentioned.

I know they sell for a good price down here, you should check up there. I don't have a part number for the export version, sorry. Be sure they don't confuse what you need with that for other models with more than just the one 50 amp breaker.

Is this the SquareD or the GE pannel? Beachcomber have advised to stay away from FPE, as every time they have a tripping problem it seems to be FPE. Also, the pannel you have, is it CSA?

I would go with the GE if you have a choice. It is much less expensive to buy breakers for - at least down here in the States. You want to add one right off, and you may have to replace one years from now.

I know we sell lots of spas in Canada (about 4 fewer than Beachcomber   ...) and I'm hoping you can get a similar box, desinged for your area.
