Peroxide on a well
« on: October 06, 2013, 08:51:27 am »
I have an Arctic spa that takes approx. 450 gallons of water and has an ozonater. I have switched from bromide to using peroxide but not sure how to maintain the water. I started it with 2 cups and have put a cup in each week. The water isn't too clear and has a faint smell. I don't have peroxide test strips and they don't seem to be readily available in Ontario Canada at a reasonable price. I am on a well. Please advise.

I have never heard of peroxide as an industry acceptable sanitizer.  Oxidizer yes. Sanitizer no.  How did you get on this program?

I believe BaquaSpa is peroxide based sanitizer? I know we have a few customers who use it, its terribly finicky and pain in the you know what to maintain and keep clean esp. if you use the spa a lot

Baqua spa is a biguanide based sanitizer. The peroxide is used to oxidize the water weekly. Peroxide isn't a EPA approved sanitizer in the US but I believe it's an accepted oxidizer in other countries. Too much peroxide in a hot tub can almost make you feel as if you are choking while in the hot tub. I don't recommend using it

I live in a fairly small town and have heard of many people using this in their spa. You can buy it in bulk here, 20 litres for $50. I'm at the point where I'm not sure, there is no smell which is the main reason I wanted to switch and two cups to get started and a cup a week is what they recommend. You can buy test strips fore $25 for 50 but I'm not sure if I want to buy them too if I'm not sticking with peroxide.  I know one person that did this and have found others on google. I'm just not sure at this point but hate the smell of bromine.

switch to a bromine or chlorine...why put safety at risk to save a couple bucks? bottom line peroxide alone IS NOT an EPA approved method to sanitize a hottub
