Need advice on a replacement pump
« on: May 07, 2013, 04:45:03 pm »
Hello,

first time visitor :-)

I am looking to replace a pump on my roommates hot tub. The pump motor is making a lot of whining noise. I think teh bearings are shot. Looks like there is a lot of corrosion in and around the motor housing due to a previous leak that never got fixed until recently.

Anyways, the pump is a Ultimax Single Speed 6hp pump. Part number on it is 1016178. It goes on a Resort Spa 856L and it's pump #2.
While looking for a replacement I see that there are a lot of options. Some are more expensive than others.

Besides the motor rating (voltage and Amps) what else do I need to watch out for when buying a replacemnt pump ?

Are there cheaper alternatives than the OEM which I found anywhere from $400 to over $700.

Any recommendation for a low cost pump? What's the downside of using , let's say a 4hp pump ?

Thanks in advance !!
