Do I need to call an electrician?
« on: February 02, 2013, 04:02:56 pm »
Hi everybody,

Our 1 month old 110V outdoor CalSpa came with a GFCI device at the end of the cable. It started to give us troubles (shutting down the spa, reset and test buttons do not work, etc) so we call the dealer and he came promptly and replaced the GFCI device under warranty.

After he left I inspected his work and it seems to me, how shall I put it, sloppy. The cable is hanging on the three conductors rather than having the outer cable sleeve clamped to the box as the label clearly states (see two pictures below).

Am I making a big deal out of nothing? Should I call a certified electrician to fix it?

Edit: apparently this is the original CalSpas part. The dealer cut the cable and installed an after market GFCI rather than replacing with a CalSpas part.

It's under warranty and the dealer needs to fix it PROPERLY
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

Retired (mostly) from the industry after 33 years...but still putzing around with a consumer information website, and trying to sell obsolete owners manuals

Thanks Dr. Spa. I contacted the dealer and he said that he replaced the entire cable + GFCI assembly with an original part from CalSpas so this is probably a manufacturing problem. Now I recall that he opened the cabinet door and asked me for a string to fish the cable so it sounds credible to me. He said that he will come and replace it.
