2004 Jacuzzi J-335 - FL1 Error
« on: December 15, 2012, 02:55:13 pm »
2004 Jacuzzi J-335 which has a FL1 Error message.  I checked voltage to the flow switch and was not getting any reading. Also, checked the flow through the switch while the circ. pump was on and off and it remained the same so I was told to replace the flow switch which I did. After the replacement, I am still getting the FL1 error so I removed both filters and checked to see if I was getting suction at the bottom of the filter where the mesh grid is located. No suction whatsoever and the temp. remains at 47º. I hear the pump running but I am not sure what to check at this point. Could anyone help me troubleshoot my problem and point me in the right direction?

 :'(

TIA
Phil

If the circ pump is running you probably have an airlock in your circ pmp.   Take a garden hose with a dish rag wrapped around the end, hold it down on the side with the screen and create a seal to force the air out of the system. Note hose must be turned on  ;)   See what you get!

Thanks for the prompt reply Jim,

OK I held the hose wrapped with the rag on the screen side for about a minute and no suction and still had the FL1 error. I proceeded to change the hose/rag to the open end (other filter side) and did have suction. I held the hose and rag over the opening for as long as I could take it since it was 47º (about a minute) and still get FL1 error. I tried the pump in stage 1 and stage 2. Next?

Sounds like your circ pump has failed, the flow error has nothing to do with the main pump.  Take your volt meter and check and see if there is power going to the circ pump, if so and it's not running the pump needs to be replaced..   6000-125 is the current Jacuzzi part number.

ok Jim,

I am assuming the circ. pump is the pump located just under the flow switch? My pump is labeled 6500-267.

Thats a main pump, circ pump is located behind the metal control box.  Small and black with a 3/4" hose running into it.

Jim,

I checked the connection at the black wire end where the connector connects to the circuit board with the neg (black) voltmeter  and the white wire end where the connector connects to the circuit board with the pos. (red) voltmeter and switched the voltmeter to DCV 200v and the reading is fluctuating around 120volts. So if I did this correctly I believe I an getting power. Please advise.

You should have 110v per leg. 110v white 110v black Touch them both for a total 220v.  It sounds like you have a bad circ pump.

I was touching them both simultaneously.  Red voltmeter connection to white wire while black voltmeter connection was on the black wire.

And you only had a 110 with the two of them?      99.999% sure it's a 220v pump.  You need to check the power coming into the spa.    And follow it from there.

Chit I can't remeber,  you cna open up your gfci out by the spa assuming you have one.   The power coming into that box should be 220.   Put the two leads on that and spin the setting till you get a 220v reading.   It should be the one you have it on if you got a 110v reading.

i assume you mean the disconnect box. Ok I touched red voltmeter connection to red wire while black voltmeter connection was on the black wire. Didn't get a reading.  Could the transformer be bad? Also, thats a tight spot where the circ pump is. Do I have to remove the control box to replace the circ. pump?
