Tied down, ready to go.
« on: October 29, 2012, 07:50:27 am »
If things go as predicted we will just get the west edge of the storm, 50-60mph winds, a lot of rain and perhaps some snow.  I got the generator gassed and ready to go. Same for the snow blower.  Hot tub is balanced chemically and the cover is tied down.

it was due to cross right over us, but so far it dropped South.  My prep was just adding a bit of chlorine to my 3 ppm residual I had after my trip so I could put off changing the water, and locking all four straps in place.  The metal arm of the lifter crosses right over the middle of my tub so I think the top is secure.

I have a bit of a concern of flooding.  The hot tub sits in an area that was under 3 feet of water after Irene.  That flooded because several dams upstream from the lake we live on burst and it all emptied into ours filling it until our dam broke.  The dams were all supposed to have been fixed, but let me tell you we're a bit anxious here.

Last year my father's tub took 2 puncture wounds to the cover from flying limbs, and there isn't even a tree overhanging it.

Covered my cover with a tarp and tied that down. Hoping none of my trees send a branch in that direction.

I doubt my cover lifter bar would survive any gust strong enough to actually raise the cover.

And you guys think a snow storm is bad. Living in Northern Minnesota is cake compared to a hurricane!

Hadn't thought about the tree branches through the top.

My lifter arm over the top is two 1-1/4" steel pipes with a right angle bend in the middle.  It's the type of lifter that holds the top straight up in the air when raised.  The front isn't covered, but hopefully the straps will hold that down and the middle and back should stay in place.

To you East Coasters.  Having only moved here a few years ago, we have a lot of friends and family in the path of Sandy.

Stay safe.

As far West as I am, its not bad, but we probably won't be using the tub again till Wednesday at the earliest.  Nobody wants to sit in 40mph driving rain and try to get comfortable.

My tub fared the storm well, but my friend was not so lucky.  Her cover pulled up with enough force to rip the cover lifter out. ..Glad Im a good Boy Scout and was prepared..lol!

As expected, we haven't been able to use the tub since Monday afternoon.  Haven't checked the forecast. At least we didn't lose power and never saw more than about 40mph gusts.

Still some light rain, but we used the tub last night anyway. We might see sun tomorrow.
