Chemical question...no chlorine reading
« on: October 13, 2012, 11:48:12 am »
I have had my tub for many years.

I was away for a few weeks and was not able to check on my tub.  When I got back I brought up te chems to be correct, all except the cholrine. No matter how much 56 i put in, the reading on the strip says I do not have enough chlorine.  I can now smell chlorine....but no purple on the strip :o

BTW I changed the water less than 45 days ago.

Any suggestions?

You most likely have such a high chlorine level (and I don't see any amount - you could have added one teaspoon or ten pounds) that you are bleaching the color right off the strips.

Try this - take an 8oz tumbler out to the tub, and scoop about an ounce of tub water. Go to your kitchen tap and fill the glass the rest of the way up - about 8 ounces total.

Test THAT. If you get a healthy chlorine reading on this test water, then your tub is WAY over loaded with Chlorine.
