Owners Manual for an older HotSpring Sovereign
« on: September 03, 2012, 07:39:52 pm »
I would LOVE to find an owners manual or a copy, for an older HotSpring Sovereign Serial # I-111846.
My unit is older than the pdf manuals that are available on the HotSpring site.
Also, can anyone tell me the date of manufacture based upon the serial number?
I love this spa, but I am going to convert it to 220 volt next month!
Thanks,

Built in the first quarter of 1991

Gallons   300
Dry Weight (lbs)   530
Wet Weight (lbs)   3,035
Footprint Dimensions   6' 4" x 7' 7"
Electrical Specifications   110 Volt 20 Amp Dedicated Circuit
Original Selling Price (Approx.)   $5,695
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

Retired (mostly) from the industry after 33 years...but still putzing around with a consumer information website, and trying to sell obsolete owners manuals

That spa was made to run on either 220 or 110, but is not convertible. Sorry.

You can do it, but you have to start by buying a new heater - you can buy the original type of system: square heater box and twin heater elements. Still available, BTW. You can also install the new type of heater, which has a Power Down Reset system. Kind of cool system, if you ask me.

But in any event, you would then need to rewire the relay which controls the heater, and you will have to run a 30Amp, 220Volt, GFI-protected circuit to run just the heater. The rest of the spa still runs on 110volt, just as it does now. It's a lot of work, and if done wrong, could be dangerous.

I would recommend that you simply keep a real good cover on the spa, set the temp and enjoy it.

Thanks guys. An e-mail to the manufacturer got me a pdf manual.
And after using the spa a few days, maybe the 110 volt won't be so bad!
Is it possible to switch out a couple of the jets?
Actually not a bad spa for $400. And it looks great for a 1991 model.

Jets can be changed out - it uses the Hydro-Air "Versassage" jets - part number 31840 from Watkins.

Looks like this _
