I woke up on Wednesday to 10 inches

of heavy wet snow!! By the time the storm was over we had record accumulations of over two feet. The whole town was without power and some still are.
The snow came before our first frost. This was devastating to the trees as their leaves acted like webs to catch the heavy wet snow. Initial estimates are that the town has lost over 50% of our mature trees.
We were finally dug out late Thursday mostly by my 16 year old daughter( it's amazing how hard a teenage girl will work who has been cut off from phones, internet and TV, to see her friends again)
I was without power for 28 hours and the temp got down to 12 degrees with 45 mile winds. I'm happy to say that my Coleman 706 only lost two degrees. The cover didn't fare well because a huge branch fell on it and tore the vinyl.
I'm back to work today and as soon as we dig out the parking lot we're gonna sell stoves and fireplaces like there's no tomarrow.

Quadrafire is one of our best sellers. I also sell Jotul, Heat n Glo, and Regency. BTW gas stoves and fireplaces will run in a power outage so we stayed nice and toasty during the power outage. Had to go to bed much earlier than normal which made my hubby happy.

Talk about "bait and switch"; you should get a nice draw with that subject line!

I asked, because I'm into my 3rd season with my quadrafire 1200i insert and am having a few problems. Hopefully I will have them resolved tomorrow. I am not getting any local support from the dealer I purchased from (he only wants to sell, not service....argh).

We've got an Empire vent free fireplace system in the basement and replaced the vented logs in our greatroom with Empire vent-free logs. Last winter, our gas bill went down, even though we kept the basement much warmer than we had in the past. It doesn't get that cold in StL but we're a big fan of Vent-free. We just don't use the decorative embers, otherwise the slight odor those produce bother us.
Can't believe I'll be wishing for snow this winter, but nothing beat sitting in the hot tub when it's snowing.

I thought about you Spahappy! Man, I thought we had it bad with being 90 degrees until about 3:00 pm, then the cold front came through and when I left work at 3:45 it was pouring a cold rain! The wind was awful as well! I'm sure glad it is getting to be tubbing weather, though!!
Too bad about your cover! Take care!!

Yeah last Saturday we were out on the boat and it was 95 and sunny. By Wednesday we were snowed in and without power or phones. Crazy global warming I guess.
It's really strange and kinda sad to see all the boats around town full of snow..Thankfully we winterized both the cabin and the boat on Sunday instead of going fishing again.
It's been 4 days since the blizzard, the National Guard has been here since Thursday helping with the tree clean up and snow removal.
I fear the whole landscape of our beautiful tree filled town has been drasticly changed. It takes a long time to grow trees in this climate, some of the ones we lost were planted by my late father when I was a little girl back in the sixties. (Yeah, I'm that old)
The good news is the gaurd and search and rescue found all the standed and lost motorists and no one lost their life due to this storm.

Yeah, it got chilly here as well. I think it almost went down to 49F. I really worry about the tourists on the beach when that happens.
