Not been a good week...
« on: September 04, 2008, 12:16:01 pm »
So, hope everyone had a good Labor Day Weekend!!

Mine, not so good...

Started on Sunday, when I decided to spray Kitty with some Hartz (or, hartzless  >:() flea/tick spray.  Followed the directions, kitty was mad, saw some critters jump and die.  Later, kitty just didn't look right, uncoordinated, slobbering, listless, not eating/drinking.  Gave kitty a bath and watched her overnight.  I was scheduled to work on Labor day, day shift, but got the call at 5 am, I could have the day off if I wanted.  DUH, of course, I took it off, I had time to take.  Kitty slept in our bed all night, a habit she has not had in some time, so I checked her food and water bowls, filled yet.  Hubby and I decided, kitty needed a vet.  $130 later, took kitty home and she was getting a little better, we were lucky she didn't seize as other kitties/small dogs have done.  Later, gave kitty a bath in Dawn dish detergent, per vet's recommendations, and just as I was about to soak in a much needed shower, screaming and yelling started.  My son, while doing a flip on the (enclosed) trampoline, landed on the trampoline in a diving fashion, which sent his right elbow out, back inwards, dislocated it, where he popped it back in  :o, and then we quickly went to the small, community hospital ER (not the one where I work, too busy).

So, I figured, ahh, just a few xrays, a visit to the Ortho doc in a day or two to verify the probable break, cast, etc.  NOPE.  He busted off the radial head in his rt arm, and it involved the growth plate, and that required an ambulance transport to Children's.  After 8 hours in the ER, the decision was finally made, he would need surgery.  Admitted at 6am, where hubby, twin sis, and I decided a very quick trip home was in order, kitty now fine and eating, quick showers and clean clothes and stuff for Junior, and a loooong wait until 5 pm add-on surgery.

So, all in all, everyone is now fine, Kitty is eating like crazy, no school for Junior until Monday, casted up to his armpit, rod and screws in place, and nibbling on pain meds less.

Now, neighbors down the street are diggin in their yard, and just had a visit from the local fire department, hopefully not a gas line, but they left already.  I was waiting for a visit to evacuate...

I can't wait for next Monday...

I can see how that wasn't a very good weekend for you.  Glad to hear everything appears to be better for you and yours now.  Hang in there!

I'm glad your son is OK ... WHat's up with the Kitty?

I use Frontline for my dog - I have since she was a pup - give that a try next time. It's expensive but works great.

I tried hartz once on the dog but it was too greasy.

My DW used some type of spray on her cat (Adam's I think) and it got sick as a dog.  (pardon the expression)  Hacking, not eating, pretty listless and staying hidden in a closet for a few days.  Cat and wife both survived the trauma.

More importantly, I'm sorry to hear about your son.  When you described the injury I had goose bumps running up and down my spine. :o :o

Thanks all for the concerns and well wishes.  Kitty is back to normal, after that second bath back on Monday.  I plan on using Frontline, silly me, wanted that to begin with, but I didn't realize you couldn't just buy it at the pet store.  I will have her at the vets and NO MORE HARTZ(less).

Junior is better, he goes back to school tomorrow, and hasn't been requiring much pain medication lately, we'll see what the Ortho doc says next week.

Thanks again, and I really do appreciate the well wishes.  (I also realize things could have been ALOT worse for either  :'()

Is that Hartz mountain approved for cats?   My daughter sees a few case a week of people using the Advantix or other flea treatments for dogs on their cats with sometimes lethal results.

Sorry, haven't been hanging out for a while.  Kitty is fine, and Junior gets his cast off in about 2 weeks.

Bill, yes, that was Hartz Mountain for Cats.  Everyone I told the story to responded with "no!  No Hartz products, you'll KILL your animal!"

Advantix, huh?  I was hoping to get frontline, we never had probs with them.
