Facebook and not so smart men!!
« on: December 14, 2009, 02:57:28 pm »
And not so smart mom..

My husband made a deal with my son..if he got his Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts and got into a good college, we would get him a truck. I found a beautiful used F150 supercab 2006. It has lots of bells and whistles and was in fantastic shape. My kid was thrilled and he put a leveling kit on it and shined it all up. ...put a LOUD dual exhaust system...tinted the windows (so lots of aestetics to make it pretty and noisy)

He got a permit to have it at college so he could come home to work on weekends..Then he goes and posts this on Facebook!!!

Can one or more of you men please explain to me (dumb woman that I am) who in their right mind drives a truck in a creek? With water up to the doors..This is a nice classy truck.
And don't even mention that I shouldn't be on his Facebook... >:(   I am going to break his legs when he gets home...

Hell hath no fury like a mom whose kid drives in the creek on purpose  >:( >:(

Why climb Mount Everest? because its there!  ;D

Could be worse, some people don't realize what they post is visible to whom.  My friend has a daughter who thought she was posting a private message, it read,  "Thanks, it was great last night, I forgot how good that can feel"

What water up to the doors???? You can still see the tires! Now if those side view mirrors were under water...now THAT'D BE SOME TRUCKIN !!!!!!!!!!

That picture wasn't taken last night with Bill's friends daughter was it? Might explain the tinted windows.

If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

Haha...my husband was getting frustrated with this colleague who continued to email him about something that my husband had agreed to do (but couldn't because he had taken a new job..whatever) anyway finally he zipped off a quick email something like...

"can you please think of something to tell this goof...he is driving me crazy"...it was intended for me..but he sent it to the colleague instead..haha..I guess he got the message but it didn't go so well for my husband's image!!

Oh Doc, that was a picture of how I supposed he entered the creek...it got worse and the water was over the bottom of the doors..so I am guessing it went inside.  Fourwheeling may be real cool, but that truck was not intended for that...If I thought he was going driving in rivers I would have bought him a pontoon boat...or at least an older truck..What if it stalled in the water? or if he went into a big hole??  I would be paying to pull it out  and that would not be good.... ::)

Back in the darkages of the mid 80's when only colleges and businesses had email, I received a message from a woman complaining about her boss, who she named in the email.  Of course, it wasn't intended for me but for a friend of her's at work.  We worked for the same company but in different cities.  Just for laughs, I replied to her message to tell her she sent this to me by mistake, so I forwarded it to her boss.  I don't think I have ever received such a quick email response back.  ;D

Long story short, we ended up being email buds and then actually met for dinner and drinks.  We hit it off and ended up dating for about a year or so.  Internet dating at its earliest form.  That's definitely an email she wishes she would have never sent...

Bonnie,

I believe what trucks are for. My son wants a truck for some reason, probably to go 4 wheeling in.

There is a young man around my neighborhood that has a 4x4 of some sort that comes around every so often with about 3" of mud on the thing.

I remember back in the 80's that we had a snow storm in NYC and some person in a jeep came down my street and must have gotten his gearboxes stuck in the snow because all I can remember is him sitting in the middle of the narrow street and all 4 tires were spinning.

I believe Bill said it with "because he can".

If it didn't get any worse than what's shown in the photo, I would agree and say not such a big deal.  It's fun to play with a truck, and post it on Facebook to show your friends you're cool.  :)  Now, Boni is saying it got deeper, and I agree if he's getting it above the door panels on such a nice truck it's not responsible.  There are the minor challenges you do in your nice truck, and the muddin' you do in your beater truck.

I wish now that I bought an older truck that he could do stuff like that in...if I would have known that was what he wanted to do :-\...I guess what make me nuts is that he doesn't even want to haul firewood for me in it...that might dirty the bedliner :o...yet driving in a creek is ok?
I don't even want to think of what would happen to my insurance premiums if he had an accident there or even got stuck real bad...Darn kids... >:(

Actually Dr. Mac, I think I will be hauling all sorts of things in "his" truck. I think he can do very well at college without four wheels. He made unwise decisions and yes, I remember driving through cornfields and hauling goats and chickens in the back of my old chevy when I was in college. ...But I never had what he has...(and what he got for doing something that only benefitted him in the long run)!

I can just see it now..me and my girlfriends loading that truck with Vera Bradley pocketbooks and all kinds of after Christmas bargains from Kohls..I will have the best parking places..just 4 wheel right over the curb at the mall...and anybody gives me a hard time,  I'll rev up that engine and blow out their ear drums....haha..I'm gonna break his legs!!

Bonny, what ever happened with your son? Does he still have the truck?

When I was in college one of my roommates did something very similar. This guy bought a brand new Nissan Hardbody 4x4 in the early 90's. I should say his dad bought the truck actually. Anyway, he took it to the Pismo Dunes (central coast California) the first weekend and rolled it.

The sad part is that his new insurance didn't kick in until the following Monday. We took a road trip the following weekend to Tijuana and got it repaired for $500. All the bondo fell off on the freeway before we made it back to San Luis Obispo. His truck was a complete wreck after that but he had no choice but to drive it everyday. You could only enter the truck from the passenger side.

This same guy had four DUIs during his college career. Needless to say he didn't graduate. I guess I'm glad I only have girls......

2005 Hot Spring Envoy still going strong. Million-Mile Club....

I want to get in the spa business so I can surf the internet and use Photoshop all day long.

I am very a very forgiving Mom. :)..so he is fine with his truck now..his grades are good. He just left after working all weekend (and he actually hauled 2 loads of mulch for me in the truck during his lunch break).  He paid an arm and a leg for new fancy wheels and these monster tires and I can't climb in anymore without an assist..haha. He did make me mad when he first got the new tires. He took his girlfriend "mudding" and there was mud up to the roof of the truck..it was literally caked under the truck and it took them hours to power wash the undercarriage.  :(

The truck is still my leverage to be sure he is working hard in college. He took the bed cover off and he is going to do mulch jobs up at school, so he is making extra money toward his student loans. It all is fine for NOW!!! Hopefully he will be satisfied profiling and not driving in the creek!  :-\

I did show him that even though he took those pictures off Facebook..I still have them, so whatever you stupidly post, lives on forever. ;)

Hey Boni,

I was reading another forum I frequent and someone posted some pictures of their weekend that reminded me of this thread you posted. I thought you might like to see them.  :)
