Word of advice,check your spa!
« on: December 18, 2008, 01:04:34 pm »
No big surprise its cold out in the PNW freezing temps and snow.  I know the people in the midwest are use to it but up here it never fails.

I get the call.   Customer: we went to get in our spa last night and it was cold and not running. Me: Ok when do you think the last time was you used it?  Oh probably a week or more?   Me: Its been in the 20s for a week now and you just checked and calling??  I hate it when that happens!!!

Fortunately  I have only received one call like that so far so I am keeping my fingers crossed there will be no more??

The good thing about this is we will sell a lot of the Pro-temp in home status display gizmo's!!

So if you haven't checked your spa in awhile and its freezing out, go check it!!   Now!  That's it go do it!  :D

I imagine the pro-temp gizmo is like my Marquis spa monitor, right?  I know I depend on it but I think it is wise to check anyway at least every few days..nothing is foolproof ;)

I have a survalience camera watching it ... does that count? ;)

Actually if we let our spas go and they get yucky it might be possible that the bacteriological mass will generate enough heat to stop the water from freezing - kind of like composting!!!!!

It was 29 degrees this morning when I got in our tub. This is very cold for Vegas. The waterfall on my front porch froze over last night.

Actually had a customer call this morning looking for a good and reasonably priced remote thermometer for his tub.

Anyone have any experience - good or bad - with any particular brands?

Or should I start a new thread on this one?

Thanks Jim!

I saw that one when searching for it myself this morning as well.  The only thing I know of is the remote Hot Spring has available, but my customer doesn't have a HSS.

Jacuzzi/Sundance have one as well, but would probably only work on those spas??

There are a few wireless themometers available, I have one from Lacrosse Technology.

You need a transmitter with a submersible tip and a receiver or 2. The receivers I have can handle up to 3 transmitters and they seem to work OK as long as the batteries are good. Once the battery goes bad you need to resync them to work again. I've tried to go green with batteries in my house so the batteries I use are long lasting NiMh but I think this application would be better for the Energizer Litium batteries - I'm cheap and concerned about the environment so I live with this type of battery.
