Hillbilly...there is some truth to the theory that in economic
downturns well positioned companies can actually pick up market
share as weaker players end up at the bankruptcy window. In my
industry we serve the legal community and lawyers seem to fair
pretty well in good and bad times, but still our business is down 25%.
And to tell you the truth I am very worried about the economy.
In fact I would not be surprised if we start to see war if economies
around the globe begin collapsing. I heard Iceland is on the verge
of collapse. How would you like to be a hot tub dealer in Iceland?

Being a hot tub dealer in Iceland no matter what would be tough, considering all the geo thermal and natural hotsprings there.

I was stationed there in the 80s what a cool country (pardon the pun)

We're a little down in sales here (approx 10% for the year).  The worst was 4 weeks before, and 2 weeks after the election.  It's been increasing steadily since then.  We're optimistic about December - it's always been one of our best & so far so good.

It seemed to me like the economy troubles hit us a little later than others - but over the last few months a handful of stores in our region have closed up shop.

I have been running non-stop with the service & install end of things.  Last week actually put one of my techs back on!  Things break (we service all brands) no matter what the economy.

I'm optimistic about our store's future - we just won a local "Best Spa Store" award, and have made a profit this year.  I think those of us who continue to work to create more total value for the customer are going to have the greatest odds of success.

I was in a Bullfrog and Jacuzzi dealer buying some chemicals a week or two ago and noticed that three floor models were sold (a Bullfrog and two Jacuzzis).  That was at a store in suburban Atlanta.
I've got wood and it's 5ft x 4ft

That is an old trick to get you think you want it because someone else has it.

Today I went to my dealer for some chems only to be welcomed by a 'Sorry, Jacuzzi Premium Showroom is now closed' sign. Looking through the windows I couldn't help but notice that the entire showroom has been remolded. I couldn't see any spas. There was only Jacuzzi plumbing supplies...bathtubs, fixtures, and such. I'm not sure if they're going to be carrying spas or not anymore. I guess I'll know soon enough.....

On a side note, the owner closed two of it's three locations a year ago.
