location, location, location...

Hi everyone, new to the forum and not yet a hot tub owner...

We live in Ohio and have a new 15 x 40 covered slab off the back of our house and a down payment on a six person hot tub.  My husband and I are "discussing" where on the slab the hot tub should be placed.

We are not in agreement...

My main concern is privacy (we live on a corner lot) and his is proximity to the door.

Please impart your wisdom to me...

What considerations did you use to decide where to put your hot tub and if you had it to do over again whould you change anything and why?

Thank you in advance...

Mine was easy, we live in Canada and I didn't want to walk to far from the patio door to get in the hot tub in the winter. It's about 2 meters from door to hot tub.  Privacy screens can be put up anywhere you want as long as it looks good.

Like CHP said, you can always put up a privacy fence.

You will hear a lot of people here say to have the tub as close to your door as possible to make it quicker to get in and out in the winter. I do not believe in that. I live in PA and have my tub about 50 ft from my back door. It is at the end of my deck and this gives me an unobstructed view of the night sky. Otherwise I would only see half the sky with the house blocking the rest. Also I have no worries about privacy, my neighbors are blocked by trees and are far enough away to prevent them from seeing into my backyard.  In the winter time I just heat a couple of towels and put them in a cooler(keeps them warm).  Put on my robe and a pair of Crocs and head on out. I love the winter so walking out and in from the tub does not bother me. My wife on the other hand does not like the cold and thought she would never use the tub in the winter. She found out that it is not cold when you get out and using warm towels helps the walk back. We go in almost every night before bed after the kids are sleeping.  ::)

thanks twalshioni.....now I bet you will get some much better quality suggestions.

you do want it under the covered porch?...is that correct as a starting point?

I wonder if it was under the porch if it might be kind of cool to eventually
add some sky lights over the tub?

Also what is the situation to the right that is out of the picture?...would that be
another fenceless neighbor?

I guess if you put it down at the end near the ladder maybe your cover lifter
when the tub is in use would provide some privacy with the cover shielding
the view?

my first vote would be...down near the ladder at the far end....but i can be swayed!

is that a kitchen or den window at the short end? The reason I ask is...
I wouldn't want to be staring at a hot tub cover 365 days a year out your
main back den/kitchen window unless ya have to.

I am sure others will have some good different ideas.

thanks chad for the better view
how high does a cover lifter come up....will they be ok on
the down side of the roof?...or will it be tight?
I hate cover lifters....so I dont know much about them

I guess with the bigger view there is some privacy issues...
no way they'd want to put up a privacy fence...I suppose?
it's wierd almost everyone in Dallas has a privacy fence
but i notice up North they dont do that....is that because of snow?

like here is my fence.....

Alway glad to welcome another Buckeye.  We definitely put ours as close to the back door as well, which we are thankful for every winter.  Privacy is a big issue, but what can you do? We are lucky in that regard.

WOW!  You folks are great...  so many responses and funny, too!

In the picture the nearest window is the dining room, the small window next to the sliding glass door is the kitchen sink and the far window is the office.  We do want the hot tub on the slab, under the roof.  I want it on the far end and the plan is to put up lattice work or something to provide a little privacy from the road.  It would be ~ 10-15 feet from the door/steps.  Do we put it as close to the house as possible or in the middle of the slab so you have access to all sides?  Any thoughts on that?
The installation guy is coming on Monday to discuss the how's where's and why's installation with us...
