whats your number???
« on: November 13, 2008, 08:44:41 pm »
My wife is not that into the hot tub. For my birthday I told her that I wanted her to go in with me. I have not used the tub that much because it is not as fun alone.

Anyway, I am still new to hot tubing and since my wife is always cold I put the heat up to 104.  I went out and felt it and it felt warm but definitely not hot.

We then got in the tub and we were warm.... comfortable.... (maybe even a slight chill on upper body)    Within 10 minutes of being in the tub the warmth turned into we were so hot.  It was weird because the water did not feel that hot but then I guess it took a few minutes for our body temp to go up.

We soaked for a while drank a glass of wine and it got to a point that we were too hot and had to get out.   The entire evening we were both sweating.  So 104 was definitely too hot.

So I ask you what is your #??  PS. I live in the northeast. it was about 40 degrees when we went in.

My wife's biggest fear was that she was going to freeze when she got out.  That was not the case. It got me thinking.... We can probably lower the heat in the house every night by just going for a hot soak!

I live in S. California, so the outside temp is a little different. The low tonight is 62.   We go in at 102- 103.  We stay in for two cycles of the jets (40 min.)

We live in the Atlanta area and our temps were going into the 30s at night about two weeks ago (30 a couple of times), but the last week, we've been in the 40s at night.  I've kept the tub at 99-100F and it's been nice.  Our winter weather is just plain crap.  When precipitation moves in, it normally stays above freezing and we won't get many opportunities to enjoy it on a snowy night.  The weather can go into the teens at night and I've seen single digits a few times since moving here.  It does snow occasionally and I hope we get to use the tub if that happens this year.  I'm sure we'll crank it back up to 102 in late December or before.
I've got wood and it's 5ft x 4ft

in Dallas I keep mine in the 99, 100, maybe 101 range depending on outside temp of course

benalexe use your "cool off" seats more and you won't get the over-heating as much

5 years  of using it almost every night, we vary the temp quite a bit.  Most of the time its 20-30 minutes in the evening with the wife and I and its as much social as therapy so that is usually 102.   When it is below zero you can stay in a 104 longer.   Summer evenings 101.   After a day of skiing or Curling, its definitely 104 with the jets blasting.

I'm in upstate NY and we keep the temperature at 101° F all through the Fall and Winter. We have tried it warmer but, for us, it gets to be too uncomfortable to stay in for any length of time.

Our number is 96. Yea, I know that's low. We are in Central, IL. Our hot tub is indoors, so I think that may make a difference. And just like you said, doesn't feel real warm when you first get in, but after about 30 minutes we're boiled.

If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.

It IS as bad as you think and they ARE out to get you.

102 about 90% of the time.  The only time I reduce it is if I know (in advance) that my 5 year old is going to be going in and then it's to 100.  Live in NC
