Last Refuge revisited :)
« on: October 23, 2008, 03:42:44 pm »
First frost last night, turned the tub up to 103 and were enjoying a relaxing soak, when for the 4 time this month our soak was interrupted by gunfire.  This time it was the good guys. They pulled over a purse snatcher and the guy pulled a knife. I guess that didn't make the cop very happy.

Yikes!

Reminds me how nice it is to live in a more rural area.

Although, I wonder about my customer who wants to get his elk from his tub this year.   :-?

Believe it or not, depending upon the range and environment at the time of the encounter, a knife can be more dangerous than a gun.

Sounds like it was a very precarious event for the officers involved (I did read the slightly more descriptive version of the original post - I hope the officer is ok).

In a part of Columbus Ohio I like to call New Mexico  :)  If I ever run for public office, you can send this message to the press.

I did edit it because there were 2 incidents in Columbus this week. I think the one where the officer got cut was downtown near where I use to work. In this case, the officer wasn't hurt.   I've had a rough day, I didn't even mention, or did I, getting woke up at 6am by my sister in law, who couldn't wake her husband up this morning. ( He died in his sleep last night)   It was his hot tub that got me interested in buying.

For those that remember me from my "not-so-nice" days, I often said that within 20 feet if I had a knife and you had a gun I would win.

I also taught some knife handling and found more often than naught the people that made that comment never had their gun on them or drawn and ready when the guy with the knife was in action.

One of my favorite statements back then was…
“Never let your assumed firepower make you underestimate your enemy…”

That's quite an "o-by-the-way"....Was he sick?

Not at all, hoping the autopsy tells us more, he was 57. It was so traumatic, I hardly remember the day at all.

Just got back to this thread - very sorry to hear that, Bill.

Those type of events are almost always a bit overwhelming.  We lost two family members very suddenly in 2007 - it takes a bit to get back to 100%.

Another annoyance of the election season. The current county coroner is not up for re-election, so he sleazed out of doing his job and released the body to the funeral home. So now if they want an autopsy the body has to be brought back and it will be a six week wait.  Great way to duck work isn't it?
