The reason for refilling is the TDS gets high from the addtion of chemicals. They sell a test strip for TDS if you want to check this. Also, if you are using di-chlor, the CYA will get high and make it so the chlorine is not effective, even if it is reading good.I would use the softned water and add the CH to bring up the hardness. Iron is a pain and takes other chemicals to remove it.Fresh water is teh greatest, nothing like the feeling of it and worth the water change IMO.
