Frogger for once a week soak  - Bromine very
« on: September 23, 2008, 11:04:57 am »
In these warm months we only soak maybe once a week or less. The Bromine level is really high. I dialed the cartridge back to 1, but there is too much Bromine. My question:

Should I remove the cartridge for a few days?
Should I still shock weekly ?
Should we even get in with the test strip measuring so high?

Thanks

Jack

This is a common problem with using a float/feeder and going long periods without using the spa. I remove the float/feeder when the bromine level gets too high.
There doesn't seem to be anyway around this other than to check the bromine level frequently.
The same must be true (in reverse) for dichlor users who add after each soak. How do you keep the sanitizer level up if spa goes unused for a week?

While the N2 and ozonator help, I simply add a tsp or 2 of dichlor if we haven't used the tub for a few days.   I've used Bromine in the past...I much prefer dichlor.

My frogger is built in, I guess I'll remove it for a few days. Thanks

Jack:  Is it a Marquis?  How big is the spa?  Have you adjusted the filtration settings?  You can turn the Frog cartridge to 0 and it will still let out a little.  I would take the cartridge out until the level drops back down.  Leaving the cover off and running the jets for several hours will dissipate the bromine somewhat.  I would shock bi-weekly if you're only using is once a week.

It's a Caldara, about 450 Gallons. I will take your advice. I did not see a 0 on the cartridge but I might mess with that. Thanks a lot
