Good luck. May the self levelling gods be with you. I would still check to see if the sand is at least level with the 2 by 4 method. You can rake the sand level if it is not level and compact it somewhat just by doing heel toe throughout the area.

I have just talked to the self levelling gods and they will monitor your installation

We did the sand and pad route for our Envoy. Honestly, I couldn't imagine not tamping it down first. We did a lot of prep and made it as close to level as humanly possible and 18 months later it hasn't shifted at all. We just bought a tamp from Home Depot for like $15 or $20, but it is amazing how nice it leveled it.
