chemical question

Hi everybody,

New owner of Tiger River Bengal.

The dealer told us to put chlorine in before every use.

If we skip a day, I assume we still have to put the chlorine in??

I went out today and there was no chlorine reading on the test strip.

I put the chlorine in, the weekly dose, and the reading came right up, however the water is very cloudy.

The test strip looks good, but water still cloudy,  wondering if anybody has any suggestions.

What is the daily  dose? What is the weekly dose of chlorine?

A cloudy tub indicates either a lot of bacteria or a lot of junk in the water.

I think most here will agree to add your chlorine AFTER each use, not before.  That way, by the time you hope in the spa the next day, your chlorine level will be minimal so you're not sitting in a chlorine bath.  I don't go more than two days without adding chlorine if we don't use it.

SO YOU GUYS ARE SAYING IT WOULD BE BETTER TO ADD AFTER WE USE.

If there's one common mistake or oversight a new spa owner makes is not meeting the demand of their sanitizer. Cloudy water is how your spa tells you so...

Please don't shout   ... I believe you are using way too little chlorine. I have a 400 gallon tub and I use 2 teaspoons every day, that gives me 3PPM chlorine reading. If I shock with chlorine then it's 2 Tablespoons

Do you have ozone and AG+?  If so, 1/2 teaspoon before each use and 1 1/2 teaspoons a week are per 250 gallons.  You have 330 gallons, so I would add, to be on the safe side at least 3/4 t per use and 2-3 t weekly.

I agree.  Your dosage seems very light.  You should really be looking to get to 3+ppm free chlrone when you dose rather than a certain volume of dichlor.  After a while you will get a feel for how much it takes to reach that level.  Weekly you should be shocking the spa with either a shock dose of chlorine or non chlorine shock.

I had the same issues.

As many people have already posted, add your chemicals after you soak.
My Ph was to low, apparently this was preventing my chemicals from working as well as they should be. I know this is one of many things that might be wrong, but give it a try.

It looks as though the ph is right but it is very hard to tell with the test strips.

I did add a little ph up, because it looked as though it could be right on the line.

Water is still very cloudy today.

Will wait for awhile to test again and see what's going on!

If anybody has any other suggestions, I'm listening.

Buy a Taylor Test Kit.  Much more accurate and easier to read than test strips.
