Anybody go to Torrey Pines today?
« on: January 27, 2008, 02:09:46 am »
I went today and watched Tiger plummet the field. I'm not the hugest Tiger fan but he's playing great this week. I think he has a chance at the Grand Slam in 08.

I was hoping Phil could do something today after opening with a 30. He lost some shots coming in though. I watched Boo Weekly on the range--he's a character. He stuffed a half can of Copenhagen in his pie hole on the range. Not your typical country club golf pro. He's definitely a good Ole boy who's a great ball striker. He was hitting it better than anyone of the range today.

Gombo,

This is why I was always a fan of John Daly, he just seemed to be more "human" then the Tiger Woods and Phil Micklesons of the world.  I have always rooted for sports figures that allowed their personality to come through, faults and all.  As for the PGA, I miss the days of Trevino, Rodriguez and Palmer, there all just seemed to be more human and less robotic.

Ah, but being more 'human' in golf can mean bad golf!   ;)  The more the golfer allows his emotions to affect him while playing, the more likely he will end up in a mess.  Tiger was a bit more volatile a few years back, but he found controlling his temper, and even his jumping for joy, made for better shots.

I watched the round on the flat screen, Tiger made some amazing shots as usual.    I also got really tired of the commentators complaining about how it was just freezing there!  ::)  I went and hit balls yesterday outside as we don't have an indoor range, 33 and lightly snowing.   ;D

I actually enjoyed it!  The guys in CA, were complaining I think it was in the mid 60s?? :'(
I love playing in cold weather, the range is fine in the 30s/50s for playing I enjoy low 50s to low 70s anything more I get to hot.

They say the PNW gets to much rain, I would take that any day compared to the midwest winters!!

Its 59 here now, headed to 19 by 8am, so we are expecting 50 mph winds. Maybe if I get to the driving range I can hit into the interstate beyond the fence.

I'm in SD, and I work a few miles from Torrey Pines.

It's been crappy here all week.  Rain, wind, temps in the 50's.  It sucks.  :P

Remember, Torrey Pines is right on the coast.  When it's windy, it can feel almost 45 there!

I grew up in Chicago, I know what real weather is, but I moved here in 1993.  I'm totally acclimated and when it gets below 55, it's COLD.

Basically, if it's not above 65 and sunny here, it qualifies as crappy weather. (even in January) 8-)

So when it's sub 55, what do your customers say when they walk in and see you without any shorts on?  :o
