Doesn't FEEL like 100
« on: February 14, 2008, 10:43:14 pm »
I just took my 3rd dip in the tub and it is GREAT.  I live in Illinois, so it is cold outside, snow on the ground, it is great to be in the spa.  Getting in and out of the tub is not bad at all...

When in the tub, it is set to 100 but it doesn't feel like 100.  Is that because I am outside, or is it because the tub is so big, what is it?  Inside my house my Jacuzzi bath gets so hot sometimes I have to slowly get in.  (That's on a water heater not electric I know)

Again, I just filled the tub last night, and today it went from 64 to 100 in a few hours.
Sounds silly, but is it really 100?
When the lcd reads 100 is everywhere in the tub 100?

To me it is warm, it's HOT, but it isn't too hot like I thought 100 would be.  Any input???

Thanks, Shane

Shane, Your own body temp is around 98.6 as you know, so 100 really shouldn't feel all that hot. I think the majority of people here keep their spa at atleast 102. Especially in the winter.

In the summer, I like it 101-102. In the winter, 103-104. It's amazing the difference a degree or two can make.

I am amazed at how you will learn to tell one degree difference. I like my tub at 101..that is perfect. Sometimes my hubby will sneak it up to 102...It is hard to believe, but that is a drastic difference to me and I need to get into a cool down seat, it is just too hot. By the same token, I can also tell it is less than 101, but lower doesn't bother me at all.

I agree with Chad and Boni that it is amazing how you can feel a degree difference when the tub gets up around 101.  I can actually get in a tub at that temp and feel it isn't hot enough pretty quickly, in the winter.  But put it at 103 and it is too hot!!  I sound like baby bear...and 102 is just right!!  Also, as Chad said, our body temps are pretty close to 100 so I would imagine you wouldn't think it was hot or even warm for very long after you got in...and in IL you most likely would feel cold!  Good luck!

Sounds good, I will crank it up to 103 - 104 and test that out.  Funny a few degrees can make such a difference, but I believe it.  I will raise it, and try it tonight.

I am having company over, so I'll let you know how the extra 3 degrees goes.

Thanks guys, you are all great.

You may not even need all 3 degrees...like the folks above have said, every degree is absolutely noticeable.

Agreed, when I worked at CompuServe, their hot tub (boy I miss having one at work) was all over the place temperature wise, my friend and I got realy good at guessing the temp to within a 1/2 degree F

I find I like to leave it set at 100 in the winter, that way the kids and I can hop right in and get out of the cold immediately.

When I am taking the cover off, that is when I bump  the temp up a couple degrees.  Then it stays at 100 and sometimes gets a bit hotter as we soak.

Shane,

I sure would try moving the temp up one degree at a time.

It's a bummer to walk out to a tub with guests trailing behind only find that everyone wants to get out after five minutes.

We keep ours at 101.  I like to take real hot showers, but anything hotter than 101 in the hot tub and I find myself sitting in the cool down seat very qucikly.  Fortunately, my wife feels the same way, although she will turn it down to 100 at times.

You guys were right, I turned it up to 103 and it felt much warmer to me.

I will learn these temps soon, thank so much.

With company you tend to want to stay in longer, I would go to 102.   104, is great, but after 20 minutes, you will probably want to be getting out.

Aren't you in the Southwest?   102-104 is great on winter nights when the temps are below 20.
