chilly soak

my nightly soak last night was a bit chilly at 5 degrees and a minus 19 with the wind chill factor. How does everybody deal with the wind when it is this cold? The colder temps don't bother me but the wind just seems to go right through and chill you to the bone. Any suggestions on how to handle would be greatly appreciated. Oh yeah we are supposed to get 6-12 inches of snow tomorrow too . Thank the good Lord I have a hot tub to soak in after I shovel.

You've hit the nail on the head. Cold weather is great for soaking but that wind will cut ya!

Can you build a wind block on your windy side? Maybe get an enclosure like one of these?

Yes the wind really puts a damper on soaking in the tub.  Do whatever you need to in order to block the wind.  We were using the umbrella from our patio set, tilted at a 45 degree angle which really helped.  But then the umbrella broke, it was about 8 years old and we haven't replaced it yet, so we suffer in the wind.  Time to get a new umbrella I guess..........

I've had a problem with the wind in the past, but found something that works for me.

I've tried a knit hat, but not warm enough. Finally I had to get out my really, really warm (ugly) hat. When I lived in Alaska, a friend of mine used to make hats out of fox fur. She gave me the pattern and I made a "test hat" with pendelton wool, polar fleece and I think thinsulate (it's been a long time). I tied up the ear flaps, but pulled it down low and it was amazingly warm. So I'm sure a store bought bomber hat would work fine. We had wind chills of -35 this Saturday when I was in and it was no problem. My tub has a northwest exposure, with my house about 10' east of the tub. So my tub is totally exposed.

Also the water was 104 degrees. When I came in my face was red, but not cold.

It felt good.

I was out the other night, it was -43 with wind chill. Wear your
touque and keep the water just below your nose.  

I just keep shifting location in the tub to avoid the wind. Stay low!!!
