HS Insulation Kits

I live in Southern Maine.. average temps right now are in the 20's.  However they will get down to below zero this winter.  I am wondering if I should purchase the Insulation kit for my Vista that I read about?  If so... how much do they run for? and how hard are they to install? :-/

That is what I read in my owners manual.  It is for the access panel area.  when it warms back up you are required to move it as your pumps could over heat. ( just going by what the owners manual stated.)

It's a "winter blanket" and retails for $49.95.   I'm in Northern Michigan and haven't used one.  If your tub is in an area with a lot of wind hitting the access door during the winter, you might want to consider getting one.  You should be able to do this yourself.

Look at the inside of your motor compartment door - if if is covered by a black plastic panel, it is already insulated. there is not much insulation, only about a 1/2" think foam board, but combined with the door itself and the plastic inside panel, it should be fine. I think the insulation kits were for spas prior to this factory insulated door, which I just noticed around 2006 or so.

However, if you think you need to add something, I would ask your dealer if they have had to do this for others in your area.

Spiderman and Chas.. thank you for the input.. I Just received my Electricity bill... over the past month I used about 350 extra kw... but I did fill and heat a 330 gallon spa, and then a 500 gallon spa.. so it might be a little higher then average use.

A friend of ours decided to keep their pool heated this winter.  Instead of a full blown pool heater, they have a heat pump.

Their electric bill was close to $1,000.  

I'm glad I have an insulated hot tub to be in for the winter.

Was that a grand per month, or for the season?

I used to own a pool service company, and I have had customers who asked me to turn their heater 'down' when the season ended, only to discover that the lowest setting on their their gas heater was still well above the temp the pool wanted to be at in February. Yes, even here in paradise the water in an un-heated pool can get down there if we have a cool winter. But some of my customers didn't seem to mind paying to keep swimming all year 'round, so I never knew for sure.

But the gas bills came in huge, easily five or ten time the normal bill, and more than once I had to explain the difference between turning the heat down and turning the heat off.

After one especially cold winter, I learned to ask exactly which one they wanted...

OK - then you have no insulation.

You could ask your dealer about buying one.

Correct me if I am wrong...but they are only to be installed in cold weather and removed when temps reach 50....as the pumps would over heat..right?
