Weird water after change
« on: December 01, 2007, 10:06:55 pm »
I thought I might wait until the coldest day I could to do my water change  ;D..Seriously, my water just didn't look good anymore, so I decided to drain early this morning. I just tested my water (was gone all day after I refilled) and the ph is 6.8, hardness is 100 and TA is 120. The temp is about 90.  I have always had to add a decent amount of Alkalinity increaser and the ph is usually much lower. I find this so strange. :-? I have well water but I bi-passed  my water filtration systems. I guess it is OK because I don't have to adjust much, but I am puzzled how my well water could have changed so much.  I use Aquacheck strips.  :-/

How old are the strips? Maybe they're giving false readings.

I guess water can change from year to year and from season to season.

I thought that too, Vinny, but they are well within their expiration ..I have a new bottle and will see if I get any different readings tomorrow. I just think it is so strange, I even went to be sure my neutralizer tank was on by-pass

Perhaps it was because you fixed the leak in your well pump?

I would suspect you were leaching out something down there previously.

If you go to get new strips, take a water sample with you if the place you go to offers water testing- would be intesting to see if their results are similar to yours.

I will do that Brewman, and Lars, I suppose that is a possibility, but I have an entire water system to neutralize my ph and soften the water and remove iron. So for 24 years my water has been pretty acid.
I just thought it was strange for this refill to be so easy on my chems!..guess I shouldn't complain  ;)

I've found that my well water pH and alk varies from fill to fill.  My theory is that the variation is seasonal.
