Just curious what options are out there besides bleach and the filter cleaners specifically made for spas.

I use filter cleaner but I've read that some people have used dishwater detergent before with success. I have reused the same bottle mixed in a 5 gallon bucket of water 3 times now. I just put a lid on it and store it in the garage.

I use water.
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

Like Neptuner, I'm on my 4th year of filter use.  I have 2 sets of filters that get exchanged about twice a month.  A good hose-down gets'em rinsed after removing.  The off set gets a chance to dry before being switched in 2 weeks.  I believe this drying between uses may have a tendency to prolong filter life.  And the filter change is certainly quicker with an extra set. 8-)

I hose mine off in the kitchen sink with the vegetable sprayer.  I tried filter cleaner once it is seemed a waste of money. Same filter cleansing occurred and no worry of soap bubbles.

I use one of these;

I'm lazy, so  this allows me to just turn on the hose, walk away, come back in a few minutes and it's clean.
