My understanding is small amounts are good for adjusting pH, but large needed for TA.

Go to http://www.archchemicals.com/Fed/BAQSPA/SpaCare/balance.htm?selLocation=alkalinity.htm for recommendations for adjusting TA.

Note this is Baquaspa site, but water balance is water balance.  Of course it mentions their pH decreaser.  However, sodium bisulfate is sodium bisulfate.
