Since we are talking beer
« on: November 14, 2007, 02:52:24 pm »
I have been wanting to post this for a while...and since you guys have been discussing beer on another thread...

I bought my hot tub because I have arthritis from Lyme disease. It has helped me tremendously...but (your'e going to love this). My husband came home from a business trip where he tried a Belgian white wheat ale called Blue Moon. You can put a twist of orange and it is really great.  Anyway, we have been enjoying Blue Moons since the summer and I have started to notice a pattern..no kidding here...if I have one or two Blue Moons before I go to bed, I wake up in the morning without my arthritis symptoms.  :oI am so sure that the beer is the reason, I have asked several friends to try the same "treatment"! ;)

So...here is the challenge, if you have arthritis symptoms (joint stiffness and pain) buy a case of Blue Moon, drink one or two while enjoying an evening soak (it works for me soak or not) and see if you notice a difference. I swear there is something in this beer that acts like an anti inflamatory agent...Best medication I have ever taken...and you don't even need a prescription. ;D

That sounds like the best prescription ever!

I have one as well...If you are having fertility problems, drink two Shiner Bocks and decide not to go fishing.  Instead, stay home wif your wife and be coerced into having relations.  This happened to me....and now tax deduction number three is due to arrive in May. :-[

Blue moon and some of the German wheat beers are bottle conditioned. If you look in the bottom of the bottle you should see a layer of yeast. Beers of that nature have vitamins and the yeast that budweiser and the others kill off through pasteurization. You should start home brewing then you could make a variety of beers for medicinal purposes. I think Shiner may have a beer or two that is bottle conditioned(brewery was started by a couple of german imigrants I think).

Blue moon is a great beer, up here it had to go by the name of Rickards White. The reason being its owned by Molson/Coors and in Canada the #2 beer is Labatts Blue hence the name change.  Blue moon is mimicked after is Hoegaarden, which I would say is one of the top 5 premium beers

OK, I have RA and take an NSAID 3x per day (every day for the past 13 yrs) along with twice monthly injections and cycling onto Prednisone for couple weeks 2 or 3 times per year when I take a turn for the worse (like earlier this month, amazing how it kicks me back to a livable level when I add it). My wife has tried special diets that never work and always comes across some crazy thing she reads for me to try but they never have any effect because mine is not a localized problem but is my immune system creating a protein that attacks all my joints (except my back).

I gotta tell her about this one. She'll probably think I'm making it up to get her to go buy me beer but what the hell, I can't see it hurting. If I even miss one pill at night I go south so it's never difficult for me to see results because I just take the latest crapshoot, skip my night time pill, symptoms worsen noticeably when I awake and I get back to regular meds. It can't be worse than the one diet she once put me on that would starve an Ethiopian. Every time she wants me to try something new now she always justifies it with "it won't be worse than the one diet you almost starved on". Last night she mentioned she wants to put me on a gluten free diet for a couple weeks. Sounds like fun!

I'll let you know.

I too like Blue Moon.  It's on tap at my golf club and there is a 6-pack of it in my fridge as we speak...oops, make that a 5-pack and one open.  If you think Blue moon is good (for your arthritis) you ought to try Guinness.   It may "look" like a dark beer but it doesn't drink like one.

Congrats tot he big guy on Terminator III.  I always did like it better than T2!  I like the El Potente line.  I always used to sign for my business as El Presidente rather than "President"

Believe me in my lifetime, I have tried many different kinds of beer. ::) My grandparents owned a liquor store in Delaware and my Dad always had a keg on tap...BUT I am saying this particular beer must have something different that is causing this kind of reaction. This time of year I start to really feel the arthritis symptoms. When I have a Blue Moon before I go to sleep, I feel great in the morning. It can't be a coincidence when it seems to work every time.  :)

I sure hope this works for you spatech...RA is no picnic..I feel guilty complaining now :-/

LOL, the key is not to complain because its not like I did something to cause my issue that makes me feel like I have to live with the consequences. It could be something worse and there is always someone worse off.

People always tell me about this pain or that but I rarely respond by telling them "well here is what I have". I do chuckle a bit when someone tells me about some problem and how the doctor gave them an anti-inflammatory or a steroid and they act like they've been given a dangerous drug and I have to hold back from saying "try taking it for 13 years". I got a laugh while playing poker when a friend of a friend was there and complained of neck pain. I reached in my pocket, gave him a NSAID and he asked what it was. He had a medical background and when I told him "voltaren" his repsonse was "that's goods stuff, just make sure you don't take it for long because it's bad for your liver and stomach". I could explain how not taking it isn't an option but I think I just gave it a "yeah I know". What would have been great when he complained of his pain would have been to say "try a Blue Moon"!

HEY!!  No fair starting a beer themed thread without me.

If it works for you, go for it.  I'm not a huge wheat beer fan myself, but Blue Moon isn't too bad.  Maybe the yeast in the bottle has some theraputive affect on your condition.  You never know.  A couple beers certainly isn't going to hurt anything.

And congrats to Term. on his announcement.  I think "AK-47" has a nice ring to it.

Thank ya'll for your well wishes...I truly do appreciate it!  I'm batting 1.000 over the last 2 years.

If it's a boy, and it better be, I'm planning on naming him Colt Bushmaster after my 2 favorite rifles (my favorite pistols would not work as well...Walther Heckler-Koch).
