For those of you out there who like to pinch pennies, here is a low-cost way to build a spa vac devised by our very own service tech Ronnie (pictured below on the right):
Materials needed:
A big ol' water jug (preferably Ozarka as it is a local industry)
Duct tape
Silvery duct tape
A check valve
A length of 1" tubing
Some filtering media
A rodent screen off'n a HotSpring Spa
Something to poke holes in the jug
Something to cut a hole in the other end of the jug
1. Stuff the filter media down in the water jug with a stick or something sticklike.
2. Take the water jug and stick a check valve in the opening. Duct tape it good.
3. Poke some drainage holes on the same end of the jug as the check valve.
4. Take the tubing and stick it in a hole you cut in the other end of the jug. Duct tape it good.
5. Wrap the rodent screen around the tube to provide support.
6. Suck crap out of the water and then let the water drain out through the holes.
Ronnie is a Marine and is greatly skilled at Rube Goldberging. He is damn near as good as McGyver. I saw him make a spoon out of some plastic wrap and duct tape last week to eat his soup at the fair.
