What is your rule of thumb on how much filtration?

I'm sure that much depends on how big your filters are, what material they are made of, if you use ozone, how many chemcials you use, your water chemistry etc.

But is there a "rule of thumb" for how much the water should be filtered?  I read at another on-line resource that a 250 gallon tub should filter 10,000 gallons a day.  So that means that all the water should be filtered 40 times a day.

Is 25 times a day usually adequate?

Is there a rule of thumb?
