2003 Dynasty Excalibur, are they a decent tub?
« on: July 19, 2007, 10:05:21 am »
Now I think I found the deal I can't pass up. This tub is only 4 years old and the owner says he thinks it may have a pump starting to go bad but everything else works. The tub has the fake wood exterior, 28 or 30 jets, seats 6 or 7, no lounger, has a waterfall, fiber optic lights and is setup for a stereo but needs to have a receiver installed. The cover was replaced about 1 year ago and everything looks in good shape. We negotiated the price and agreed on $400 bucks so I gave him a deposit. He just wants the space back on his deck. Said he bought it from a friend 2 years ago that needed some money before he went to prison and after using it for a year he says they use the pool more so the tub needs to go. He's going to fill the tub today so I can see it run on Friday and if I don't like it I can have my deposit back. My electrician friend says he can test the motor to see if it's actually bad so he's going with me on friday. How much could the motor actually cost me $300 to $400 bucks? I can rebuild a classic car so putting a motor in a hot tub should be easy. So does this sound like a good deal?

Dynasty are a very low end quality spa, but for $400 if it is working is not a bad way to get into tubbing.

I would ask to see it running first, also they commonly leak and those repairs will get expensive.

Do you open up the spa before you deliver them?

Mine is 4.5 years old.   Feel free to take a look at my link below for pictures.  Mine is the 4000 model, no stereo.

The one I'm looking at is the same color as yours but it doesn't have the lounger but other than that it's almost indentical. How do you like it after 4.5 years and have you had any problems with it?

This will be a HUGE upgrade from my 1990 Cal Spa and if it leaks I'll just throw a can of radiator stop leak in it for a few hours and then drain it and fill with fresh water. ;D

We still love it and use it 5-6 times a week.  Its still under warranty, but here is my recap of service issues.

4 months in circuit board in controller had to be replaced
3 years in flow control had to be replaced
4 years in lost a pump, was replaced.
